Kelly GrowCut reminds me I forgot to post a picture of my latest acquisition that I purchased when I went to see Procol Harum at Manchester in May. To go along side Cactus Jeff, Gary and George I now introduce to you (drumroll) - Geoff!
Attachment Deleted
He's named Geoff after Geoff Dunn, drummer with Procol, because I was particularly impressed with his drum solo.
I don't know the difference between a cactus and a succulent and I don't even know what Geoff is all I know is I faced the difficult choice between a rather handsome cactus with a red flower or this, which caught my eye with it's beautiful colour.
Now I need to find a cactus to commemorate Wembley.

That's a beautiful plant! Hey, but is there any chance that that is a cactus? Maybe a very rare species, otherwise it doesn't look like one.

Sad news, my cactus Mik Kalahari isn't very well at all. His leaves have been turning brown with grim regularity. I took him to the garden centre to get advice. They thought he might be getting too much sunshine. (In Britain?!) Maybe I should have got him a cape, like his namesake used to wear in the early '70s. So now I've moved Mik and Richard Sandy out of direct sunlight, treated Mik to some new cacti compost and am feeding him some special plant food. I'll let you know how he gets on. To aid his recovery, I've been singing to him, a mash-up of forum hits: ♫ ♩ ♪ "Rock bands sing of Summer Night Safaris/But I named a cactus Mik Kalahari..." ♫ ♪ ♬

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mik Kalahari, he's obviously a sensitive sort of cactus like his namesake.

Some news for forum cactus-lovers, and fans of Wilf, who inspired the song Inacwg: As reported on the "When two dragons meet" thread, Uno and I met in London last Saturday. And Uno gave me the most inspired gift. She gave me some cuttings from Wilf, the Godfather of Forum Cacti! Delighted, I have planted the cuttings in suitable soil and am very much hoping they will take root. There was just one question. What to name this very welcome addition to the forum cactus family? I had to think about this for a while, and came up with this idea. Since this plant will be Wilf's successor - And since Wilf produces magnificent flowers - I've named the new cactus Bloom Violin. Here he is, he says hello.

What a brilliant idea! From the woman who named the cactus to the one who sang to it! That was an awesome and indeed very inspired idea for a present. Welcome Bloom Violin to the forum cactii family! "Now that you have a name I can speak right to you; hear me, my desert flower"...
