Puts me in mind of spring! Thanks, Wilf! (or a certain pink shirt) Spot on, BSJ. It's good to see a cactus so secure in his masculinity. Lovely display, Wilf. Once again, you win the annual Forum Flower Show.

Is it my impression or after we wrote that song for him Wilf gets more flowery and swaggish each year? He's pure exhuberance now! Pinky power!

Wilf does seem to have more flowers than last year. As long as you don't run in your Helmut83 , you might have a chance at catching me!

Is it my impression or after we wrote that song for him Wilf gets more flowery and swaggish each year? He's pure exhuberance now! Pinky power! You're right, I noticed Wilf becoming a lot shinier and more plumptious within a few weeks of us making him an item around here. Before that he was kind of dusty and a bit sorry for himself. Not sure how this happened because he's in a different room to where we discuss him, cacti must have ESP (Extra Spikey Perception) Of course having a whole Street Next Door song written about him has boosted his ego no end too. However I predict the other cacti in the forum family* might well catch him up in the floral display arena, not sure how he'll take that. *is there a collective noun for cacti? A prickling of cacti? A puncturing of cacti?

So it's not just my perception and Wilf indeed was indeed needing a pat on the back to boost his self-confidence... I don't know about that last question, Uno. Maybe our teacher eloneen knows? Or our writer vlogdance ? And given that we are on linguistics and such, isn't the plural of cactus cactii, with double "i"? It is in latin, and the word cactus is a latin word. Then again English often takes words from other languages and deforms them at will.

Timeblue is a great candidate for trying them for the first time. That's if the heart attack inducing cake doesn't get me first......

You'll break them and I'll send you wicked good cakes to help bring your heart attack to fruition faster. No use thanking me. Let's just get the job done properly!

Well, to be honest, I wasn't talking about Timeblue wearing those shoes but about receiving a kick spanking from someone else wearing them (probably BSJ or Unomusette), but now that it's being mentioned, I've seen more unlikely things fit well...

For me, in English "cactuses" makes more sense.

For everyone concerned with spiny green linguistics - I found this on the website Grammarist.com. Couldn't find a collective noun, but how about "a spike of cacti"?
