No need to panic babyzoomer
It's just good friendly banter - as a wise bard once said...
"It's all good entertainment and it doesn't cost a penny"

Rule #1 on forums - 'never feed the trolls' - I was quite aware that you folks were having a laff (albeit with slightly dark undertones) - if I had thought you were serious, I would never have added fuel to the fire.... I just thought I'd play along (seemed like a good idea to my alcohol-addled mind).
That was my last night on the drinkies for a bit; I'm back on the diet/wagon...(I put on 5 kilos in the 5 weeks I was away on hols). Next stop 80-85kgs, which will hopefully only take 10-20 weeks.

I love Zoom and Armchair Theatre. Listening to Zoom right now. It's a great album - it's chock-full of Jeff goodies!!! It doesn't beat OOTB or TIME but it's up there for me.

Isn't it usually the English and the Aussies who have a bit of banter going on? What's wrong with us? we are too nice to each other....!

Perhaps I was a little harsh with my verdict on Zoom. I remember thinking at the time when the live show came out that since Bev,Kelly etc weren't there, that this definitely was the end of ELO as the band I knew and loved and as such i think it clouded my judgement on the album.

That's understandable. I mean, in some ways it's not REALLY an ELO ablum... but if a lot of what you love about ELO is Jeff's songwriting then there's a lot to love about ZOOM.

I have always thought that it was more of a solo offering rather than ELO as a group.

I have not bought Zoom or Longwave, although I've heard both. (Does that make me less of a fan? ) I'm not really crazy about Armchair Theatre, which I do have. Zoom will be my next ELO album purchase, I guess.

The first album I ever really bought was 'Time'. My parents had bought me Discovery for Christmas in 1979 and I think I got Xanadu for a birthday in 1980. I picked up a second hand Out of the Blue in a local market - with a whole punched in the corner for hanging purposes on the man's stall! So 'Time' it is. I remember bringing it home on day of release and playing it from start to finish. I loved it so much! Now a school friend of mine bought the Twilight 7'' single and I heard Julie Don't Live Here. Even at 15 years old I wondered why this beautiful Jeff Lynne creation didn't end up on the album? My dad used to buy the Sunday Times (London). I liked it for the sports news and the LP reviews. They reviewed Time and Tattoo You by some group called The Rolling Stones. I cut it out and put it into the slieve of the record. Moving on about 36 years, my wife and kids got me a record player for Christmas 2017. I very simple one - nothing automatic about it - but it meant that I could show the boys the LP covers, and the Time review I had kept for so long. Playing the album on it is great but I can't really explain why. Maybe it's the memories attached to it because there are a few scratches on it and so it doesn't sound as crisp as the CD remaster I bought a few years back. Now I have delighted being able to expose our sons to different ELO records over the last couple of weeks. They think the start of Eldorado is very strange. It has got me going back to the other albums and I have to say that Time is the one I enjoy most. I can't explain it. I like it's punchiness. The songs have great melodies/lyrics but it doesn't sound as '1980's bound' as Secret Messages IMHO. I'm grateful for all the wonderful background information I have read on this forum about the Time LP. I'm fascinated about the late addition of Hold on Tight to the album. Was there every a chance of those three excellent 'bonus' tracks making it onto Time (dare I say it at the expense of Another Heart Breaks)? I guess bonus tracks were a way of selling more 7'' singles at the time. Who was going to take Jeff aside and say..."are you sure about this?" Anyway, I love it...and the other LPs are great too

Another Time fan! nothing wrong with that in my opinion...(the hole in the cover of OOTB could be a sign that it's an import,I've heard this before)

Yet another 'Timer' here! Although ANWR would be my favourite, Time is a turning point in the evolution of ELO. In it, Jeff expressed his excellent song writing skills - and his undoubted expertise as a producer. It also showed that he didn't need to rely on strings to identify the album as an ELO masterpiece. I love all of it - but The Lights Go Down brings a smile to my face. Can't explain why - it just does
