I have a feeling many of us came along when ELO started to make it really big.
That was the case for me, the first ELO album I bought was A New World Record. And it was the first album I bought on my own, with my own money, picking it up in a record shop in Stockholm (I was only nine).
I came home and must have listened to the album at least five times in a row, looking at the album cover, reading the lyrics. Magic!
Is there anyone here who actually became an ELO fan from the first album? Or second?

A New World Record was the first ELO album I bought. The oldest I got was Eldorado on Compact Cassette (in a remainder bin...)

The first one I bought was "Out of the Blue". It was a special offer and for some unexplained reason it costed about 1/3 o the prize of any other ELO album, even when it came with the 3 bonus tracks.

Unfortunately, a number of us caught onto ELO decades after it started to become really big. The first albums I bought with my own money were A New World Record, Out of the Blue and Discovery, and they were all bought at the same time in 2002/03.
The first time I heard ELO was most likely during car rides as a small, booster seat-trapped child.

Balance Of Power, on vinyl, then sort of worked my way backwards.

Out Of The Blue was the first one I could afford to buy. I was 13 when it came out and had been a fan for several years.

Time, followed by Secret Messages then Afterglow... I think Balance Of Power was next, followed by Out Of The Blue, possibly Zoom and I forget the order after that!

My first album was Xanadu.
I actually discovered ELO from the Discovery hits (bought the singles with Confusion being my first), but delayed buying the album because I had the singles from it.
My second was A New World Record which a friend of my brother gave to me because he didn't want it anymore.

Hi folks: The first ELO record I bought was DISCOVERY but the first record I heard was XANADU. It was on a friend's house. His brother put the record and I was lost. When I heard 'I'm alive', 'The fall' and those marvellous songs I knew ELO will be the band of my life.

I'm from Spain. There are a lot of ELO fans here. I am hearing TIME now. Do you think that THE WAY LIFE'S MEANT TO BE is one of the best songs ever? When I'm down, this song takes me to the top. And I think that Jeff Lynne's production of this album is marvellous.
