any Hold Steady fans out there? it's an odd band, makes me imagine someone taking Randy Newman away from his piano and placing him in the midst of a zydeco band

lasttrain929 The amazing Maurice White had passed way a couple of years before, and they are all much older now, but the show was still quite dazzling. It was at an outdoor venue on a beautiful June evening and it was a wonderful concert. I posted about it in the Gig Guide thread (circa June 2018), if you'd like to read my review. (The Emotions, who teamed up with EWF for Boogie Wonderland, don't tour with them.) I checked EWF's touring schedule, and they are going to be quite busy later this year and into next year touring around the US and making all the stops they missed in 2020 and early 2021. I might try to catch them in Virginia in August of 2022, if that date fits with my work schedule. EWF will be performing at an outdoor venue in Greensboro in late September. Tickets go on sale today....sounds tempting...

Following on from the Quill part 3 video where they play with Chris Norman, here's Chris with his band Smokie in the mid 70's (incidentally, when they first started out they did the pubs and WMC scene in and around West Yorkshire under their original name 'Kindness', My parents saw them in my home town of Castleford)

I liked smokie/smokey have a few singles and a couple of greatest hits on CD and vinyl. Never hear their music being played these days, think they were from Bradford if I recall.

You're right, they were from Bradford which is about 15 miles from me. I have a greatest hits album too. Fun fact of the day---Smokey had to change the spelling of their name to Smokie as Smokey Robinson threatened a lawsuit against them as he thought his fans would get confused....

I always wondered why the spelling change, never knew that, good to know. One good thing about this forum whenever somebody mentions an artist I haven’t heard in years I always dig out a CD and enjoy the music. Smokies greatest hits up next....

I've just stumbled across this... I remember seeing that when it was first broadcast. Honest After that, it's amazing that they're still together
