I'm posting on BSJ 's recommendation (so blame her, not me ). A couple of weeks ago I played with my rockabilly & country band at a restaurant right on the shores of the Rio de la Plata. The attendance was really meager, there were just 11 or 12 people, and together with the restaurant manager and two waitresses that made 14 or 15. That was all of our audience. However, the show came out pretty well, other than for a few mistakes by the singer during the first songs. Our little audience was extatic, they all got up and danced to the big rockabilly hits, clapped, sang and cheered like mad, and they kept asking us for more and more songs to the point that we ran out of encores and had to improvise with songs we had never rehearsed before (of course at that point a few mistakes and lack of coordination was allowed). The only guy who didn't stand up and dance was a man in his 60s who had difficulties walking. In spite of this he seemed to enjoy the show a lot. When we finally finished he ordered a few bottles of champagne for him, his friends and us, and raised a toast to the band. He congratulated us all one by one and said he hadn't enjoyed so much a live show since a long time ago. Wow! Then it came out he was a big executive from BBVA. Here's a few videos that a lady in the "audience" filmed and then sent to me (I'm on the right, playing harmonica): "Achy Breaky Heart" "Be-bop-a-lula" A rowdy cover in Spanish of "Get your kicks on route 66" (one of the songs not on the setlist) When I joined the band I was hoping for dozens of attractive young ladies jumping on me as soon as I finished playing (or even when I was playing). A fat bald man in his 60s isn't exactly the kind of groupie I was hoping for, but hey, at least we have a groupie!

Congratulations, Me Bub!
What Mr Modest Harmonica Man is not telling us is that the groupie is mostly his. This man clapped for and encouraged Helmut all night!

Found myself with a big smile on my face watching those clips, hope this will be followed by loads more triumphant gigs, nice work Helmut83 and your bandmates Besides your own brilliant peformance, of course, I really liked the lady singer at the end, she was properly going for it. It must have felt fantastic to have such great feedback too after all your rehearsals paid off.

He told me he was particularly keen on harmonicas and that songs with harmonicas had something special for him, and yeah, he shouted things and made funny gestures of praise when I finished playing solos. He also requested me for a couple of songs and I convinced the guys to play them, maybe that's why he was cheering on me. It was fun. Anyway, if I have financial troubles I've got a door to knock now.

Well, we got immediately re-hired for April 6th. The manager promised he would promote the event this time so he gets more public, hope he delivers. Maybe he didn't have faith in us the first time or it was just a test. To be honest I didn't have much faith in the band either. The way we performed onstage was a complete revelation to me, a pleasant one of course. Yeah, the backing singer girl killed it. The funny thing is that she was a replacement because our usual backing singer was on holidays in Uruguay. We'll have to think about the chance of getting her as a permanent member.

You were re-booked, this is proof you're on the right track. And the way you all gelled as a band when playing for an actual audience shows that however hard you practice it takes that extra element to really show what you can do

Thanks, eloneen and elophile ! We are representing part of the folklore of your country in ours. elophile : just imagine all of the other hidden talents I have that you don't know about! Like... like... uhmmm... walking backwards in slippers? Yeah, I've been playing harmonica since my teenage years. Ask vlogdance and Buttler , they have had to bear it in every single recording we've made.

Helmut83 if the female backing singer gets replaced could she not be your first groupie I doubt that if we don't admit her in the band she will be too keen on any of us... unless if I act like I want to have her in the band and blame the others for kicking her out so I'm the good guy.
