any John Irving fans on the forum? I'd never heard this before, but it gave me a chuckle. Al Stewart (best known for Year of the Cat).

Years ago we saw Noisettes supporting Muse, they were quite heavy and I was impressed with the singer's voice which stood up well to the loud guitars. Next thing I know, they've gone all pop and are storming the charts. It must be hard, to decide to maybe change your whole musical direction just to chase chart success. But on the other hand there are only two sorts of music, good and bad

A lovely little gem of a song that I forgot about... I do like this a lot. There is a whiff of the Brit school thing and not really feeling authentic. No denying a lovely voice and cracking song though.

Lovely!! Can't go wrong with Daryl Hall. The beginning reminds me a little of Fire and Rain by JT. Anyone else hear that? Maybe Ben is doing a little homage to a fellow North Carolinian there?

I agree, it's a great song and a neat rendition of it. It was a single over here a few months ago and had a lot of radio play. You're right eloneen, the first thing that comes to mind when it kicks off is Fire and Rain

New song from Yola, and Aaron Lee Tasjan gets co-writer cred
from a Rolling Stone article about her new album: “Diamond Studded Shoes,” a newly unveiled preview of Yola’s upcoming album, Stand for Myself, due July 30th. As with its predecessor, 2019’s Walk Through Fire, the album was produced by Dan Auerbach for his Easy Eye Sound label. But “Diamond Studded Shoes” marks yet another musical twist in Yola’s saga. An ebullient mix of hard truths and vintage soul, it marks her first collaboration with songwriter Natalie Hemby (known for hits like Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” and Miranda Lambert’s “White Liar,” and her role in the supergroup the Highwomen) and singer, songwriter, and guitarist Aaron Lee Tasjan.
In 2017, before she’d even met Auerbach, she was in the midst of “one of my visits to Nashville where I kept on convincing people that I lived here, although I didn’t,” she recalls with a laugh. Yola was hanging out with Tasjan, whom she describes as “my brother from another mother.” One night, she recalls, “We’d been drinking. We were talking about life. You know how it is over a bottle of wine: ‘Oh, God. This is happening in the U.K. It’s a frickin’ hot mess. What’s it like over here?’ ‘It’s also a hot mess.’”
At some point Tasjan began playing a buoyant riff on his guitar, and Yola started singing along, riffing on her feelings about May’s speech: “Everybody’s saying/That it’s gonna be all right/But I can’t help but wonder/If it’s gonna be on my dime.” As she recalls, “The lyrics started just coming down like a torrent. The first verse is unchanged.”

LOL - I guess this is what happens when a musician feels he's already said everything he wanted to. but how did marching penguins get into this song?
The good news is that when Van is too old to remember any lyrics, he won't miss a beat even if he's singing gibberish.
