They're not bad You have excellent taste, my friend I had no idea they'd done that collab with Steve Vai... 2CELLOS + ELO collab when?!? Seriously, though, whenever I watch old ELO live shows and see Hughie and Mel running around with broken bow hair waving all over the place, I think they definitely would've got on well with these two!

Lake Street Dive is releasing a new album this month. this song isn't from the new one, just happens to be one of my favorites and here's where they covered Bohemian Rhapsody - normally I'd say Rachel has the most kissable lips in music, but the Freddie get up gives me pause

Earlier today the expression 'minor detail' came up in work. MINOR DETAIL... I remembered an Irish band by that name who were destined for great things. It wasn't to be. I search for them on the usual site, and found this... It's dated, being from the early 80s, but it's quite pleasant to listen to

Haven’t listened to this for a long time, George could play a mean slide guitar.

somehow I completely missed this band in the '80s, jangle pop that will appeal to fans of Big Star or REM

A random thought I've been having for a while lately... what's the significance of artists still releasing 'singles' these days? It's not as if they're pressed on 45s as the only songs you could buy separately from the album, now you can digitally buy any individual song you want. Does that make every song a single? Or is it reserved only for standalone releases, or songs that artists choose to release ahead of the album to drum up excitement? ...I'm assuming that singles aren't ever issued after an album's release anymore. Or are designated singles the only songs allowed to chart, so it really does still matter which songs are chosen as singles?

Interesting question, Grroosss. Once upon a time every single was a separate entity. LPs came about as collections of singles. Then things turned around. Singles were recorded for albums, which were usually released after the first single. 1987 - I perceived a change. The Joshua Tree came first, then With Or Without You. The album, as we know it, might not have much time left.

you're not far off to say that all the songs are "Singles" now
but the music marketing folks are still up to their old tricks there is more music being released than ever, so they do "every little thing" to get the attention of the programmers for radio and streaming
the single often comes out before the album is ready, as a teaser of things to come maybe you're not quite certain you want to invest 3 minutes but the "single" label gets you to think - "oh, well if it's supposed to be their best new song, I can listen to the first minute"
Aaron Lee Tasjan released a single "Up All Night" in October and it got me to pre-order the vinyl which finally went out on March 19th so I guess it works on old-timers like me

was ELO an influence here?
band's name is Jet and the song is "Rollover DJ" (they've also got a song called "Move On" <Brothers Nic Cester and Chris Cester grew up in Dingley Village, a south-eastern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, and attended St Bede's College Mentone, listening to their father's classic rock records from the 1960s and 1970s>
but at least on this song they sound a lot more like The Faces or the Stones than ELO

To my untrained ears, they sound like a 'harder edged' Texas?
