Jeff looks really happy though which is a proper treat to see. I was there but up in the gods so couldn't properly see his face.

I'd never seen this live video of "Hold on Tight" from the Heartbeat 1986 concert before, and just came across it as recommended for me on YouTube. It's played faster than the studio version and reminds me of zydeco music when played like this... having the partially accurate French lines almost completes the picture. All it really needs is an accordion, and Richard's solo just before the 2'00 mark almost sounds like one...interesting. I'd never had the impression that it sounded like zydeco before. Jeff really hit the high notes on that one didn't he, particularly at the end?

Before the recent resurgence I saw them twice, the Heatbeat concert which that video is from and on the Time tour.

I only saw them at the Hearbeat gig, but recall being extremely outraged that they weren't headlining. The Moodys are great, but they were much more "has-beens" than ELO at the time. Whilst we were sitting up in our side tier which was sort of above the stage, Bev and Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath came and sat a few rows behind us. Can't remember which band was on at the time. I remember being impressed at how tall they were - usually famous people are really tiny when you see them in person. Alice Cooper is a proper titch for a start. I think they only look normal sized because they are surrounded by other showbiz people who are also vertically challenged.

elophile Did you go to any of the original ELO concerts? I went to The Big Night in 1978 and The Time Tour in 1981. Can't wait for my third ELO concert in August!

So cool!! did you see the spaceship? I never saw the original ELO. Only Jeff Lynne's ELO. We should start a thread "Who WENT where?" There was no spaceship. They used it every other show because it took so long to set up and dismantle. I went to one of the "no spaceship" shows, but I was giddy and 13, and glad just to be going to an ELO concert. My older brother and his wife met the requirement of "responsible" adults to accompany me. My parents insisted upon that for me to be able to go at that age. Starting the "Who WENT Where" thread would be cool! I think it's a great idea!! It would have to be a very long thread, organized by year, by tour. I know that there are websites that list every show on every tour for various bands, with the dates and the setlists, for folks who may have forgotten... Sounds like an interesting project for someone... Horacewimp
