Not sure if anyone has already done this before but it has always fascinated me in how well music videos convey the lyrics/ themes of the song. So I thought I'd start with the music video Wild West Hero which really tickled me when I saw it, see what you guys thought of the video and different people can show different ELO videos and see what everyone else thinks of them?
Of course the content of the video does relate to the theme of the song which is the speaker wanting to be a Wild West Hero (pretty obvious really), interesting outfits exhibited by the guys, it suits Jeff remarkably well that cowboy hat and ahh his hair, so lovely and curly... Nice to see him without his glasses too, a rare occurrence these days!

I do like the video it is a bit of fun, it does seem very low budget and thrown together. Let's get some cowboy hats and shirts and do a video, Jeff seems uncomfortable when lassoed as if it wasn't in the script, then it cuts to the old movie fight scenes. At first it looked like just Jeff, Bev and Kelly and then the other guys appear out of nowhere, I like Bev singing along.

I have to admit: I had never seen this one, it's real fun I'm not sure really, I mean I like some music videos and I dislike others. For example, I f****** hate the Hold On Tight music video, whereas I love When I Was a Boy with its slow motion and side movemente effects. And, except for WIWAB and WWH, I think the rest just don't evoke the emotions they should. Had I been ELO's frontman, I would have made a single music video for the whole Concerto For a Rainy Day, with just me acting the four main emotions exposed on the four songs along the four weather "settings"... A very cinematographic video. And (though this is madness) always thought good concept albums like Time and Eldorado were excellent candidates for these "movies" music videos. I don't know the word... Just like a whole film composed of every song in order. To exemplify: Les Misérables. It would have helped to understand the stories, and would have been a perfect complement for the albums. Again, just dreaming a bit. Back to your original intention: well, I really dislike the idea behind the Hold On Tight video... Let's start by saying it doesn't make sense. I really love that song so the video shocked me a little bit, being so strange. To go a litte further, I also dislike Balance of Power's ones. So Serious?!?!? What the hell was that video? The ones I like are Here is The News, When I Was a Boy, Last Train to London, Shine a Little Love and Don't Bring Me Down. But I can't argument why I like the ones on Discovery. I just like them. Let's PLEASE not talk about Ain't It a Drag.

Jeff just keeps playing, even though he's been lassoed. Talk about the consummate professional. haha.
In my opinion, this is the band's best video. Tells a nice little story, and the guys really seem to be enjoying playing their roles. Just not sure how I feel about Jeff's facial hair, and Kelly's hat....

Let's PLEASE not talk about Ain't It a Drag. I totally get what you mean about some music videos not portraying the actual theme of the song, Hold On Tight as much as that is a fun music video it doesn't go with the whole concept of Time to me, whereas Ticket to the Moon does because it's a bit futuristic like the lighting used. Hold On Tight was quite an expensive video I think? Here is The News is a fun video, seeing them as news presenters but again doesn't go with my visualisation of the album but I suppose music videos have evolved from the 1980s to now. I've never watched the Balance of Power music videos, anybody got a link to them? I love So Serious as a song so would be interesting to see how it is shown in a video. Since you like the music videos from Discovery, what do you think of the Midnight Blue music video?

Looks as if Jeff is wearing one of Beveys shirts and possibly a necklace, or two. Damey and jewelry do not mix. As, Chippa writes, the man is a professional, surprised he didn't go into a laughing fit. Best part is the saloon fight and the brief shot of the accordion playing man, he fit right in. Otherwise, it's cheesy. Here is band who's pulling in the big bucks and the best they get are cow-boy get-ups, a lasso performing man on a horse and ready made clips.

Ok, this one is a hoot, their first video! A favorite video and song. It's fits the time perfectly, and is well done, too. I love the angle used shooting Jeff's guitar playing. They hit all the musicians, playing their key moments. I wonder how many takes done, and cameras used. Interesting details on it from Jeff Lynne Database. “Harvest records commissioned the video (which has an unidentified director) and it was distributed to various TV studios to promote the band. In the video, the band mimes to the full album version of the song. Roy Wood plays cello while wearing a long blond wig. Jeff plays guitar and sings while wearing a strange outfit that seems to reflect some of Roy's stage theatrics: a long trench coat, a sea captain's hat, and an eye patch over his left eye. Jeff also mimes all of Roy's singing parts (even though the audio is clearly Roy's voice). During this period of ELO's career, there was a frequent change of members, especially the string players. Due to the absence of cello players in the band at the time of the video production, non-cellists Trevor Smith and Phil Copestake (respectively, the sound man and roadie for the band) donned pig masks and mimed the cello for the video”. It’s just great! I saw this pop up when finished watching: Insight into the making of the song.

Is weird how Roy doesn't sing his parts on the song and Jeff mimes them though?
