dillwyn: is the next Euro the same format than the last one, with tons of teams participating? Or have they gone back to the more reduced format they used before that?

big format again and this time matches will be played across quite a few countries ...sadly unless Giggs learns that international football requires some kind of strong defence it won't include wales....

Strange. I remember Euros being played at Holland-Belgium, and Poland-Ukraine, which made quite compact units. Which countries will those be? Our Copa America starts tomorrow (or today, given that it's past midnight here). Brazil, the home team, starts against Bolivia, the worst team in CONMEBOL. They should pummel them. Even without Neymar (what a bad timing for his injury) Brazil are the big candidates. Argentina starts on Saturday against Colombia, a very tough opponent. Our team is looking to break the curse after 26 years of not winning any silverware. Japan and Qatar have been invited and will be participating too. And on the women's World Cup, it's England vs Argentina tomorrow. In normal circumstances I could think on making a little bet with you, Horacewimp , but our girls suck badly and the odds are too high in England's favor.

It is scheduled to be held in 12 cities in 12 European countries from 12 June to 12 July 2020. The tournament being hosted in several nations is a "romantic" one-off event to celebrate the 60th "birthday" of the European Championship competition... cardiff, stockholm, jerusalem and Skopje all missed out
Each city will host three group stage matches and one match in the round of 16 or quarter-finals. The match allocation for the 12 stadiums is as follows:
Group A: Rome (Italy) and Baku (Azerbaijan) Group B: Saint Petersburg (Russia) and Copenhagen (Denmark) Group C: Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Bucharest (Romania) Group D: London (England) and Glasgow (Scotland) Group E: Bilbao (Spain) and Dublin (Republic of Ireland) Group F: Munich (Germany) and Budapest (Hungary)
Group stage and round of 16: Copenhagen (Denmark), Bucharest (Romania), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Dublin (Republic of Ireland), Bilbao (Spain), Budapest (Hungary), Glasgow (Scotland)
Group stage and quarter-finals: Munich (Germany), Baku (Azerbaijan), Saint Petersburg (Russia), Rome (Italy) Group stage, round of 16, semi-finals, and final: London (England)

60th anniversary edition? The Euro is so young, the Copa America celebrated it's 100th anniversary in 2016. Weird format. Except in the case of London and Glasgow, the other pairs of cities are not particularly close to each other. But then again Europe is small and has great means of transportation so even like that it must be quite feasible.

After I wrote it I took another read and realized, so I considered changing it but thought "nah, who else would be as dirty minded?". I should have counted on you, Timeblue.

Looks like your guys suck badly too Helmut! They do, definitely! Disgusting performance. Colombia was far better and won deservedly. Dark years are looming for Argentine football. After we crucified the generation of Mascherano, Messi, Higuain, Di Maria, Agüero, Rojo, Biglia, Romero et al for losing several finals of Copa America and World Cup, now we are bound to recognize their value retrospectively, as the generation that follows them is far less talented and will probably not even make it to finals anymore. On another note, I can't believe that many people think Messi is better than Maradona. If you remove the best team in the world from his side (the 2009-2015 Barcelona) and replace it by an average team or even by a very good team (Argentina had a very good team in 2014), Messi is uncapable of doing anything. Maradona took an average Argentina side to being World champions in 1986, a Napoli team to 2 scudettos and 1 UEFA Cup -titles that it never won before or after him- and an awful Argentina side to almost being World champions again in 1990.

I don't think Messi has recovered from what Liverpool did to him a few weeks ago...

Barely a 1-1 against Paraguay, thanks to a gifted penalty in our favour and our goalkeeper saving a penalty for Paraguay. Two goalscoring chances in our favour during the 90 minutes and incredible problems for generating football. I don't think I've ever seen the Argentina national team so low in my life.
Next game could pass to history as one of Argentina's biggest failures ever if we don't manage to beat Qatar.
