Timeblue , are you happy? Congratulations! I am a bit disappointed, more than anything for the level of play. After such epic semifinals I was expecting to see a good show, to be entertained, and the game wasn't good, it didn't look like a UCL final. Liverpool got that early goal (Sissoko, what on Earth were you doing pointing at something with your arm extended inside the box?) so they didn't need to do anything else, they just sat back and waited, and as a result the first time was very boring. Tottenham in my opinion where not up to the circumstance today, it made you wonder if a better final wouldn't have come out with Ajax playing instead of them. They had serious trouble in getting the ball upfield, and on top of everything Pochettino refused to put Llorente and send long aerial balls to him like he did in the semis. They had however a stint during the second half in which they put some pressure on Becker, but it only lasted about 10 minutes (the only 10 fun minutes of the game) and then Origi scored the second. All in all the best team won, there's no doubt about it. And I'm happy for Klopp, the guy deserved to win it. But I reckon that for the neutral spectator it was a pretty disappointing show, or at least for me it was.

It was a poor final in terms of quality but like you say we deserved it after this season.

I agree with every word you said. Awful match (I probably fell asleep a few times), I still don't understand why Keane and Winks played it. If I were Pochettino I would have changed them with Llorente and Lucas.
So, basically the same team that won against Ajax.
P.S. Put your hands together for Divock Origi.

BIG mistake in playing Kane I thought, wasn't fit and should have been used as an impact sub in the last 30 minutes. It WAS a penalty, spurs cannot have any complaints about Sissoko having his arm in that position. I don't know why it as a poor final as both teams had 3 weeks to prepare, maybe the stifling heat played it's part as the players were out on their feet after 70 minutes. What more can you say about big Div? 3 vital goals in the last month...

the whole competition is a mistake. it is not a champions league. it is top 4 made to screw more money out of tv league and prevent the richest 18 european teams swanning off to make their so called super league for the time being.
How can you have two teams from the same country in the final neither were or have been champions for a long time.... not even this year....
bring back the european cup ... i may watch it then ... grump over

I totally agree. Winks, how bad was this guy? And why did Poch decide to play him in the final when he hadn't been playing as a starter? I was watching the game with a friend and in the second half, as soon as it became clear that Spurs had huge trouble in generating some decent football, I started screaming for two changes: Lucas Moura for Winks and Llorente for the eternally irrelevant Dele Alli (I think he's the most overrated player I've ever seen, he contributes nothing to his team yet he's been a starter at Spurs and England for several years now). The funny thing is that Pochettino made exactly those two changes, but both of them came too late to have an impact. He should have done them at the 65th minute mark. Kane wasn't ready to play, I agree, but in my opinion he's always clever, he had a couple of intelligent interventions and he could drag marks and attention in the box. The problem was more Winks and Alli, plus not having Llorente to send long balls to -given that they couldn't generate football- like they did against Ajax. On the winners' side, hats off to Virgil Van Dijk. What a boss. The guy is supposed to have been dribbled past for the last time about a year and a half ago.

Yes it is just the long term direction that is the most worrying. There most be near a 1000 professional/semi pro clubs in europe they should all be represented. The new format in 2024 is the current concern ... promotion/relegation, saturday games for european competition ...football is eating itself. uk.reuters.com/article/uk-soccer-europe-competitions/european-clubs-uefa-to-begin-discussions-over-post-2024-competitions-idUKKCN1QZ1AS
