Helmut83 what do you think of Leeds appointing Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager? Whoa, because of your geographical location I had forgotten you were a Leeds fan! In his heyday, I loved Bielsa. Hell of a coach, he could make any team function and take it to new heights, and he was very innovative tactically. Argentina had it's best WC qualifiers ever with him. But the older he got the crazier he grew, and I'm afraid he has been just too crazy lately, like nuts, and not in a good way. So I would be surprised if he does well with Leeds, but who knows? Maybe he gets his sh*t together and is able to conjure his old magic again. What do you think of it?

I don’t really know much about him to be honest, recognise his face from pictures and have read he can have some madcap ideas.
We really need some consistency in management, this is our 11 manager in six years, that can’t be good. He has signed a two year contract I bet he won’t see it out a run of poor form and he will be sacked.

Sounds like a case of crazy management plus crazy coach. Either two wrongs make a right or it could be a spectacular disaster.

So Horacewimp, how is crazy Bielsa doing in Leeds? I heard the other day on the radio that they were off to a good start?

So Horacewimp, how is crazy Bielsa doing in Leeds? I heard the other day on the radio that they were off to a good start? We have had a great start, we are currently top of the league. I haven’t seen us play but reading reports we seem to play fast attacking flowing football. Long may it last but I’ve not forgotten it’s a long season. He won manager of the month for The Championship division.

Wow! Really well for a start. You can't deny the guy has got knowledge about managing teams and tactics, I just hope he can keep his inner madman controlled for the whole season, which as you say is quite a long way.

Premiership footie update .... so for every up (last years unexpected promotion) ...... there is the 5-nil defeat at home against man city.
it is going to be a long season...cardiff have had arsenal, chelsea and now man city in as many games ...lost all 3 of course ... cardiff flickered into life occasionally during these games and man city were clearly the best of the three by a long way ... despite the circus that goes with this this whole premiership so far 6 games in .... as an experience it is vastly disappointing...forget the results... it is essentially 6 massively funded teams and a bunch of also rans, who are treated with derision by the press who are obsessed with champions league for some reason (i only ever watch the final not all the nonsense before)
Championship was turn up watch an exciting technically less proficient game of fairly matched teams...any team could win on the day, this so far is totally one way and not particularly enjoyable, they are obviously supreme athletes but it isn't actually enjoyable football, it is almost like basketball (dull as hell) ...

I think the Championship is a much more exciting and close league, currently in the Premiership after six games five points difference covers the top four, in the Championship after nine games five points difference covers fourteen teams you lose one match and drop back a long way.

I think the Championship is a much more exciting and close league Particularly when your team is on top. I agree with both of you, dillwyn and Horacewimp . But it's not just something that happens in the EPL, the extreme disparity in financial power has ruined other big European leagues as well. The Bundesliga and the Serie A are the worst cases, completely ruined to the point that everyone knows before a single game is played whom the champions will be. They are one horse races. Le Championnat is pretty much the same, although Monaco gave it an exception 2017. And, La Liga started this trend even before the others, being a two-team affair since several decades ago, with Atlético de Madrid in 2014 being the sole recent exception. So, in the end, with it's 3 or 4 teams who are miles above the rest, the EPL is still the most "entertaining" -or less boring- of the big leagues. Even the Champions league became boring. You already know the champion won't be other than Real Madrid or Barcelona. I'd like things to be like in the '70s, '80s and early '90s, when big European team were favorites but still beatable, and clubs like Red Star Belgrade, Olympique Marseille, PSV, Steaua Bucarest, Nottingham Forest and Porto could win the UCL (or it's equivalent, the old European Champions Cup) and teams like Ajax, Sampdoria, Athletic Bilbao and Borussia Moenchengladbach were strong contenders. In the end, much like you, I end up following lesser leagues closer because they are more entertaining.

I think the most stark contrast was my son explaining to me that there was one player sat as substitute on the bench who cost more than our entire current squad. Then a friend of mine has posted a picture where six of them are celebrating with the headline 'these 6 players cost more than cardiff city have ever been worth'.

Horacewimp and dillwyn: are you aware of the South American/Argie football shitshow (River vs Boca, Copa Libertadores final, 2nd leg) that suddenly headed to Europe?
