I don't think Jeff really needs me to play cheerleader for him, but this show was exactly what I'd expected, short of him bringing in a few guests or perhaps turning up elsewhere in keeping with the spirit of artist crossover seen at past VetsAid concerts. This wasn't really the time or place to draw attention from the cause with announcements of further dates, archival releases and the new material previously teased, with the short slot giving him little room to deviate from a streamlined hits setlist. Even his past stadium and arena tours usually placed greater emphasis on the crowd-pleasing songs to keep filling venues, though a few more deep cuts wouldn't go amiss in the future. Maybe if we get something closer to an actual victory lap...

Sad to say but "Time" catches up with everyone. Being a fan who saw him in his prime, it's watching a loved one grow old. I saw Jeff - and the entire band - in their primes too.
But on the flipside of aging rock stars, the new Stones album is strong from start to finish. I have listened to the album front to back and there is not a dud in the bunch.
I haven't had the opportunity to check that album out. I heard Paul played on it.

I'm just watching VetsAid on YouTube again and I'm actually impressed with Jeff Lynnes voice. He seems to go for more of the normal higher notes than on the last tour. That's probably because he has to play it safe on tour due to the number of shows but still, he's actually very in tune. Maybe the strength of his voice isn't quite there but that could be down to lack of activity.
And he looks healthier than he did when picking up his songwriters award.
Just my opinion I know.

I noticed a few occasions where it seemed like he was going to stick with conservative phrasing, only to instead shoot for the kind of notes that would have been impressive enough for someone a fraction of his age. Really, what amounts to decades off the road at this point and relatively good living has paid off massively. Just please don't let this be the end...

I was very fortunate to have seen the magnificent seven back in 1978 on the Big Night tour, but we are never going to be able to go back in time and recreate that magic. However, I think we should be thankful that Jeff is still able to perform in a concert setting. Sure, I would love to hear him do a few deeper album cuts, but it's great he's still around and playing in 2023 (almost 2024). Now, if we would only hear some news about a new album!

Tour no,but I think more albums are possible. He sounded good, but shaky at times during the Vets Aid show. I still stick to my opinion that a long, drawn-out tour isn't happening. A new album or two is a definite probability, though.

Why has All Over The World suddenly become a staple song to play I wonder? All Xanadu songs were totally ignored until Hyde Park and now we have this at every gig and sometimes Xanadu itself!

Why has All Over The World suddenly become a staple song to play I wonder? All Xanadu songs were totally ignored until Hyde Park and now we have this at every gig and sometimes Xanadu itself! I ask the same question. The best answer I can come up with is that Jeff chooses the songs from those he has played the last 8 years and they are easy to revisit (with minimal effort) with the same backing band.
What would have really made me happy is if Jeff joined Walsh and Stills on stage - they are eminent and famous musicians as we all know. Yes, that would have required Jeff to learn someone else's song for that star showing but Jeff should have been out there.
And one final note - Milton McDonald had very little face time on the broadcast and not showcased much - only when he soloed on ROB did the crowd see what he could do. While the entire backing band is very good, Milton is the one who I could see in the original ELO, going crazy with Hugh, Kelly, Mel and Mik on stage. He has that rock star image and musical ability!

Who's the old woman playing guitar with Jeff?? From the looks of the haircut, I'd say that's Witchiepoo. Obviously, she's let her hair go grey. But, I'm pretty sure that's her.
