I’ve still not received my order yet has anyone managed to get a copy of this? Mine turned up on Friday, but I’ve not yet opened it!

It seems a double coloured album release is also planned.

Why doesn't Jeff sue to block the release of such early grey market recordings? We all know that he is not a fan of releasing live recordings (only 3 to date - 1974, 2013, 2017). And the early couple years were not ELO lighting the live touring circuit on fire.

If I was to take a guess, it's either a lack of awareness that ELO is now following The Idle Race and even The Move in being tapped for a quick buck this way, or Jeff simply doesn't care enough to fight what may end up creating a legal precedent where such "grey area" releases are brought into the spotlight. I know there was a period where he wasn't exactly the biggest fan of live performances, both from the perspective of technically being unable to recreate the kind of sound he desired and touring keeping him out of the studio, but once these recordings are out there (despite a few of these being officially released and something I'm sure someone out there could claim ownership of), they're pretty much impossible to keep a lid on. Besides, the quality - or lack of, in most cases - puts artists off wanting to be associated with them. I reckon it would be a totally different outcome if a wealth of studio outtakes were to surface, since it's more likely he could go back into the vaults and provide these from the best possible sources or polish them up further to his usual high standard, which may explain why those in possession of such material aren't a fraction as quick to try their luck, whether that's through producing bootlegs or reaching out to these labels dealing in titles that I have to agree are extremely annoying in their ability to dilute the brand. Well-curated copyright extension sets are one way I've seen musicians get around this problem, and we're approaching the point in ELO's history where such a countermeasure may need to become necessary.

My CD has turned up, I’ve not had a chance to play it yet but the packaging, booklet and written information is better than I anticipated.

Yes it looks alright to be fair, some photos are from later year's so not revelate to the period of this CD. Just listening to it now 👍

Personally, I've never understood the need or popularity of these releases of demos, rehearsals, edits, outtakes, etc unless you are some kind of obsessive completeist or an archivist for the artist. Whenever examples have been included on cds as extras, you might give them a listen out of curiosity but never twice. It's like buying a book and having all the various drafts and edits included; interesting, perhaps to critics or uber fans but not anyone else. I want to hear the final finished work when all the stuff and experiments that didn't work have been discarded and the artist has reached the point that they feel the song (in this case) is good enough to be shared with an audience and fans.

I'd agree up to a point . BUT (for me) it's sometimes interesting to see how a song evolves . Yellow Submarine on the recent release of Revolver is a prime example . Oh and I liked the missing verse in Evil Woman too.

I agree, I wouldn't splash out good money for something I would not play again. But saying that, if it was Time demos etc then I MIGHT.....

I got mine today, and it is worth the money.
Not because the live takes of the songs are particularly brilliant, but they are authentic, warts and all!
And there are three interviews, with Roy and Jeff and then one each with them.
Fascinating to hear these early recordings. You couldn't guess that mega stardom was just a few years away.
The best version is Whisper In The Night, revealing its A Whiter Shade of Pale ripoff qualities...

I would also say the CD is worth it, the first three tracks 10538, Nellie and Battle don’t sound to me much different to the album versions. The other tracks are definitely live and as janne mentions the interviews are interesting. Well packed product, nice booklet and live versions of tracks, it’s definitely an eight out of ten from me.
