Having just gotten past New Year, there is "chatter" about a certain song competition. Last year's didn't take place - much to the disappointment of Iceland - and, indeed, everyone with excellent taste in music Organisers are determined for this year's competition to go ahead. I'm looking forward to that In the meantime, I've been reminiscing, and remembered this mesmerising performance from 1991. Yep, 30 years ago

No,no and thrice NO! This abomination of a music contest need to stop now! Whenever it happens you can guarantee the UK will finish last as a 'punishment' for daring to leave that cessp... I mean the EU. Why does the BBC keep funding this?
Oh and er...why does Australia take part?

I quite like Eurovision, it's a bit of spectacle and sparkle in a gloomy world. But I agree with Timeblue the BBC should give up its guaranteed place in the finals and stop helping to fund it. Has the inclusion of Israel and Australia ever been properly explained?

The BBC contributes a lot to the European Broadcasting Union - hence it's guaranteed place in every Grand Final. Israel is also part of the EBU. Australia... They're big fans down under. In 2015 they were invited to participate for the first time for the 60th competition. They did rather well, so have been included ever since. In 1980, Morocco took part. All in all, it's not about being European. It's about who's part of the EBU - and who are big fans

I must admit that my interest in the competition dropped off when it went to two semi-finals and a grand final. But... Then there was this gem from 2015... It didn't qualify for the grand final

Is it Eurovision time again already?
I thought the Gina G song was trash when it came out but today it sounds like Mozart.
The show was better when Wogan narrated it but without his humour the fact that the UK keeps losing is getting boring. I wish countries would go back to singing in their own languages again.

I wonder what the odds are for the UK to finish last? especially after we 'dared' leave the corrupt cesspit that is the EU (only my humble opinion of course....)

I wonder what the odds are for the UK to finish last? especially after we 'dared' leave the corrupt cesspit that is the EU (only my humble opinion of course....) Last place is a place of honour in the Tour de France -
In the Tour de France the rider who finishes last, rather than dropping out along the way, is accorded the distinction of lanterne rouge. Because of the popularity it affords, riders may compete for the last position rather than settling for a place near the back. Often the rider who comes last is remembered while those a few places ahead are forgotten. The revenue the last rider will generate from later appearance fees can be greater than if he had finished second to last, although this was more true when riders still made much of their income from post-Tour criteriums.
