Hi fan forum members.
I bought a ticket in 2001 to see ELO and they cancelled due to very poor sales. I wonder if ELO’s name still packs the punch necessary to sell these big arenas enough. Most people will spent $50-$100 for a ticket to see an old band but I spent $300 for a decent seat. I’m hoping enough people are on board to do that as well so we don’t get a repeat of 2001. Jeff, unlike many classic rock bands, carries a pretty big production with a lot of band members. He is all about “go big or go home.” Ticketmaster’s seating chart/map provides me the only clues I have and it does appear a most seats are taken already, but it seems fishy to me since the show is in August that they are already nearly selling out. Any clues on how ticket sales are going this far for Jeff Lynne’s ELO?

Welcome to the forum longwishingThe chance of the shows getting cancelled are very slim or non existent in my opinion, the tickets have sold well and everything is in place for a USA-Europe-UK tour. What show are you going too, let us know and I'll add you to this thread, relax and enjoy the wait jefflynneselo.proboards.com/thread/1505/who-where-2018-tour

Hi longwishing - and welcome to the board I can understand your concern. I can back up what Mr Wimp says - the tour will happen. Jeff's found a new enthusiasm with live performances, and he's probably really looking forward to this year. He was overwhelmed (and I don't think that I'm exaggerating here) by the response to the Hyde Park performance in 2014. Since then he's taken his 'new' ELO on tour throughout Britain (and beyond) twice - in 2016 and last year. Go ahead and book... You won't regret it!

longwishing I don't think there will be any cancellations. I had a heck of a time trying to get good seats. I think they sold really well early on because of pent up demand. Also, don't forget that extra shows were added after tickets went on sale for the originally announced dates. That, to me, indicates good sales. Jeff's been burned by US ticket sales before so I'm sure he's been cautious to not take on more than there is a demand for. It's gonna happen!!!!

And, don’t forget the high price of tickets. If a venue is not sold out, Jeff is still making money. But, I wonder where that sweet spot is. If the old boy knows what’s good for him he will dare not burn me us!

The resellers may get caught holding a few tickets but I doubt it. They will try to collect every cent they can. The pumpkins aren't in the same league as the others mentioned.

I still think Jeff is leaving money on the table not coming to the American southeast.

It's quite deliberate to announce tours like this a good 12 months in advance as it allows plenty of time for them to sell out and if initial sales are poor the artist and promoter have time to cancel without incurring too many costs.
The circumstances surrounding the 2001 tour are still murky, but Zoom's flop in the US (it peaked at 94 on the Billboard 200) and the fact there wasn't enough build up to the comeback, other than the VH1 storyteller's appearance, before a full tour was announced didn't help. Jeff alluded to the fact that as the tour was scheduled post 9/11 the mood of the country also influenced and affected sales and the decision to abandon the tour. I suspect that if they had concentrated on the UK,instead it might have been a different story.

Right between Pearl Jam - who I can't stand and Post Malone - who I've never heard of and left out of the headline of course. Good on Jeff for strong ticket sales though!!!

Thanks for replying! A lot of good insight there and some encouraging articles. It’s nice to see that sales are pretty good if not fantastic already here in the states

I wonder if there is any advertisement of the concert in the cities he will be playing in? A lot of times people just don’t know because there is no advertisement. Had I not been in an ELO online fan forum in 2001 I’d a never known about that tour
