As a companion thread to ELO songs that have grown on you,I have a thread for you to get your moans of your chest. I'll start with Roll Over Beethoven,I like it less every time I hear it,why this is the band's signature finale song I'll never know.......

I get why they use it as the finale-- it's upbeat, loud, dramatic, kind of wild, and it takes everyone back to the early days--so there's a bit of nostalgia, too. There's also the theme of the song. It's not among my top 10 ELO songs, but it's a jumpin' little record long, but classic tune I want ELO to keep playing, as a finale or otherwise.
I'll have to think on this more to respond thoughtfully to the original question.

I don't like the newer (2013) version of Borderline as much as the original (1990) version. The original had a rather naïve quality which lent it a kind of purity - and which the 'modded' later version lacks. Of course it's just my (never humble) opinion. I still listen to both, though!

It was a smart gimmick that worked to get ELO recognized and it's a signature song for them but I find it annoying. Well, except for when I saw them play it live. I enjoyed it then but they could have played literally anything live and I would have enjoyed it.

Also (and I really will keep undercover for saying this) the re recordings on the album Mr Blue Sky. Why tinker with something if it ain't broke....

Tough one. Honestly, I can say that I tend to skip over "Birmingham Blues" if I'm listening to the OOTB album.

I think a lot of fans feel the same way! I'm thinking it was a business decision more than anything... Who knows?

I'll add one vote for Roll Over Beethoven, it gets tiring for me too.
It's a good question, because you can only include in the answer songs you used to like.
For me it could be "Don't bring me down". I think it's a great rocking song but the amount of verses and choruses it has is overwhelming (particularly the choruses, which are basically repeating the same thing over and over) and makes it easy to get tired of it. I think that song was born to keep short, 2 or verses and 2 choruses, and instead it's unnecesarily long. If Jeff had kept it short it wouldn't be as tiresome.

When I read the title of the thread I thought I'd not be able to think of anything, but you're right, ROB is quite tiresome. I wonder if Jeff ever dreads having to drag it out every night too?
