this song from Starbelly sounds like ELO to me, or more accurately it sounds like LEO's Alpacas Orgling which was an ELO tribute album.
when I looked them up on YouTube - sure enough, they have Roger Manning, Jr as a guest performer on this song Roger was a co-founder of Jellyfish with Andy Sturmer who went on to sing on that LEO album.
if you're following along, the musical DNA is flowing from ELO to Jellyfish to LEO to Starbelly and the best part - Starbelly is a Baltimore band! so I'll be keeping a watch out for local gigs when this damn virus fades away
found another video of them playing at the Cavern Club in Liverpool with Cliff Hillis of The Orchestra on guitar told there was some ELO DNA in this band

Did a search and couldn't see it in the thread so..this conjours up ELO feelings.
There's even three descending notes in there that remind me of Xanadu.

World Party's album Goodbye Jumbo came out in 1990, shortly before Jeff's Armchair Theater, so a lot of people thought this was something from that album, before they found out differently. Give a listen and you'll realize why. Vocally, Karl Wallinger is almost a dead ringer for the shaded one. I heard this on the radio today and immediately thought - that sounds like Long Black Road. It's another track from World Party's 1990 album -and since Long Black Road didn't come out until a decade later, one could ask "who is sounding like who?"

One of the highlights starts at 2:16 (Whatever happened to those bits in the middle...?)

The first time I heard Put the Message in the Box I was convinced it was Jeff - are World Party still around?

Karl Wallinger is not in good health - he no longer makes much music obviously. Very sad and unfortunate. I love all of his albums!

This is how I'd like to hear today's Jeff - ELO-ish but not quite. I think he could go a bit more elaborate than he's currently inclined to do. After all his fans love him for his detail.

If I didn't start listening to 10cc I don't think I'd be into ELO now. I like to think of 10cc as a type of ELO that's harder work to listen to.
