there have always been rumours of a Time show that was filmed I think we may finally have an answer to that mystery, as the Historic Films Archive also lists a variation of the Cleveland '78 show that appears to open with Twilight. My guess is that it's a later edit with the studio version of this song edited in as an introduction, perhaps for broadcast to coincide with the US leg of the Time Tour. Could this be what had been rumoured to exist for years? I'd say it's very possible, though audience footage of at least one '81 concert apparently might still be out there... Even 1/2 of a Time Tour gig would be heaven for us long suffering ELO fans looking for archival projects to drool over (not literally, of course LOL)

I still think some sort of footage of a Time concert will surface at some point, rumours of it have been about for many years.

If a Time show DOES exist, is it feasible that it could be in private hands away from the Historic Film Archive?

It appears that elodevi posted something on Facebook about someone who has a recording of the ELO Dortmund show in 1986. Unless I am mistaken.

That would be great, although I've heard that this is only a partial recording (better than nothing I suppose!) One thing that I always had issues with is that the tour was the Balance Of Power tour but they only ever played Calling America! and if you look at the setlist for these shows it's basically the same as the shows that he has done recently.

Partial audience footage of Dortmund was uploaded to elodevi's YouTube channel back in 2009, though I've never heard of a pro-shot source existing for this date. Wembley is the most likely candidate from '86, as the headline set was definitely broadcast in edited form, and quite a bit of footage taken by audience members has also surfaced. Considering that many were supposedly attending just to see ELO, I can only hope someone felt the need to capture this for posterity. As for the Time Tour, it's puzzling how that now remains the only period of the original band's history we have absolutely no video of, not counting the brief news report from its second batch of rehearsal sessions.

Yes, I have since seen what has been posted since 2009. Hope springs eternal on Time Tour footage!

Today is the day! We hope you can make it to the show at 5:00 PM UTC. A reminder that the video starts at Tightrope so it is not the full concert but a majority of it. Sadly, there is still no shot of the spaceship stage closing at the end of the show but the audio is still included. It'd be a shame to not include!

I've had another listen to the Cleveland show. The non Out of the Blue songs are superb. What a shame Jeff didn't have the confidence to just play the OOTB stuff without backing tracks. Looking forward to Canada !!!

I was around for the original ELO's success. ELO was considered to be a strong live act (aside from the taping issue on The Big Night Tour) so I have always been mystified why Jeff has chosen to downplay the live concerts. I think it was mostly about his perfectionist attitude in the studio and thus translating to the stage. Though he never had a problem getting the lyrics wrong.
If Jeff would just loosen up and accept that live concerts cannot be hermetically sealed events --- thus just enjoy yourself! Then I think we could get a Time gig released from the official archives if it exists. If the latter is mostly about him wanting the public not to see the rest of the band, well then, we will have to rely on private collectors to do the necessary work.

One of the things I'm really hoping to hear some day are the countless hours of mono soundboard tapes that Brian Jones ran off the front of house mixing desk for every ELO show he was involved with, with spans the entire original band's run and continued through to at least the mid-1990s with Part 2. Although normally made so the band or road crew had a reference for how the previous night's performance sounded so they could make adjustments, we know at least one of these was provided to Pete King as a way of allowing him to learn the setlist when he briefly took over from Bev in February '82. Upon his passing a while back, I was curious to see if someone would at least confirm the existence of Brian's archive and where this had gone. My best guess is that Jeff's camp either made an offer to have these preserved in the vaults (where they'll likely never be heard again), or his family is still sitting on an absolute goldmine. At the very least, we know they've not found their way into the hands of private collectors, because I can't imagine anyone not uploading even samples from those yet. Could this be our best chance at getting to finally hear something from the Time Tour in decent* quality?
*That's not entirely true - the Lyon show from 02-18-1982 is an audience recording I can't recommend enough, although it has one minor blemish in the form of Jeff almost growling his way through Here Is The News. To be fair, it was the back end of a three-leg world tour, and it seems as if he swapped this back in place of recent single The Way Life's Meant To Be as a way of trying to preserve his voice, only to find that wasn't the best choice. If anything, he's close to pulling out his old Idle Race style of vocal delivery, but it just doesn't work when combined with a worn-out throat and songs played more aggressively than on record. Seriously, what was with the overall stage energy around that era?!

Another great show, cheers guys (again!). The quality seems a little poorer but doesn't take away from the performance from the band. Jeff fluffs his lines in Evil Woman again, what is it about that song that causes him to do it? It was a great watch and yet more visual history of our great band.

I noticed some performance differences by the guys and I could tell that the band was smiling a lot. Even Jeff was smiling a lot. What was that all about? LOL

It was a U.S. - UK - Western Europe tour. I think the rest of the planet would probably agree. Jeff has not been to the large Asian cities, has not been to Australia since 1978, and hasn't been to Eastern Europe or South America. There is much money to be made in these other locations--the Stones and Queen know this well.
People may complain about ELO Part II and The Orchestra, but those bands played parts of the planet that Jeff has never attempted. And for that they have my admiration.
