An ELO Premiere! What was not to get excited about? The opening showing what I presume are hydraulic pump/gears, and what not, giving you visions of the space ship top rising up, heightening the anticipation. A stand out was Jeff's guitar work on Tightrope. Delighted to find a lot of those goodies through out. I'm looking at you string boyos. It was so good seeing all of them together. Thank-you so much, The Acetaters and elodevi.

Solos by Hugh and Mik. WOW. I was at Wembley in 2017, but I would have preferred to have been at Cleveland 1978.

I have mainly vague memories of actual details of the performance at The Big Night concert I attended in 1978. It was my first rock concert, I was just 13, and my parents let me go with my 21 year old brother and his wife. Here is the setlist, and it lists the cello and violin solos, too. I definitely enjoyed the experience, even if I don't remember all the details anymore. www.setlist.fm/setlist/electric-light-orchestra/1978/lsu-assembly-center-baton-rouge-la-63dc7a77.htmlI do remember that there was no spaceship, and that I was disappointed about that after having heard and read about it ahead of time. I also remember wearing to the concert a cheap light green Big Night t -shirt (with the spaceship) that I had bought in a local store earlier in the summer, buying a program (which I no longer have) at the concert, and that we had general admission tickets, standing in the crowd on the floor. The tickets were about $7.50 each, if I remember correctly. It's good to see a comparable show (but with the spaceship!!) now and appreciate it again all these years later! Thanks for the (rekindled) memories!

I remember that from 2016, not long after, ELO along with Journey were both nominees for induction into Cleveland's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but they snubbed Kelly Groucutt, Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell and Melvyn Gale, even their 2017 ceremonial program says that's "ELO's definitive lineup"!

I've only listened to Standin in the Rain so far. There's still a heavy reliance on backing tapes. Is it the same on other songs?

The whole '78 tour was consistent in its use of tapes, but I'd say the mix is a lot more balanced in the band's favour for this concert. Also, it seems limited to the opening/closing piece, songs from Out Of The Blue (Sweet Talkin' Woman in particular), the intro to Rockaria! and the start of Roll Over Beethoven.

Thanks for the (rekindled) memories! In the U.S. there were the A and B shows. The A had the spaceship, the B shows did not. Given the length of time to set the spaceship up, the spaceship did skip some dates. Not literally, of course. Spaceships don't skip.

lawrev I realized that after the fact, and it made sense. I was REALLY happy to be seeing ELO. The disappointment was there, but it wasn't a game-changer for me.

lawrev I realized that after the fact, and it made sense. I was REALLY happy to be seeing ELO. The disappointment was there, but it wasn't a game-changer for me. I was one year too young for The Big Night tour. But older guys in high school went to the Milwaukee show and they raved about it for a year - Out of the Blue played on our school bus for one year - until Discovery was released. With Discovery, ELO was no longer cool.
