Has anyone seen the 40th anniversary treatment the Stones Tattoo You album received? It looks incredible…. I guess it comes down to if the record company thinks it will make money. Time is my fave ELO album but I have to admit it wasn’t a smash in (North) America so the general public knowledge of the album just isn’t there. There is even division among ELO fans on the album re: hard synths taking the place of the Orchestra strings. Would a lot of us on this site pay top dollar for a potential expanded/double album version of Time - of course! Would anyone outside our group share our interest? - doubtful… Well the 2018 Secret Messages 35th Anniversary 2 LP Legacy Edition is considered to be successful and it wasn't anywhere near a smash that Time was in America! Former #36 Billboard 200 albums chart 1983 Latter #16 Billboard 200 albums chart & RIAA Gold 1981

Jeff has played Secret Messages AND Rock And Roll Is King at his shows therefore he likes SM a lot more than Time..... fact. (I tried to do that in a sarcastic way.....)

There is a world of difference between how the Rolling Stones deal with their fan base vs. how Jeff does. Tattoo You is going to be a fantastic release. I am jacked to see it released in the coming iterations.
And it illustrates that although the old ELO is a legacy act, the old ELO is in the tier below the Stones, McCartney, etc. Calling them a second tier act isn't an insult except to the portion of the fan base that lives on Jeff's every note and quote.
Producing a couple Beatles songs for the Anthology Project in 1994 - 96 gave Jeff the imprimatur that he always sought - the fifth Beatle. Although I'd argue that George Martin was the 5th, and Jeff would be the 6th.
Jeff's most loyal and long standing fans - like I - and even though I criticize him when I think he warrants it - would love to see a truly earth shattering Time reissue. A deluxe edition with live material. Heck, even get back together with Bev, Richard, Dave Morgan, Mik Kaminski, bury the hatchet and get a good "group" photo as a way to say, "we had some fun together, it was not all negative."

It's over, it's over, it's over Summer came and passed away Hardly seemed to last a day, but it's over And what can I do? Music playin' in the air Silence on a darkened stair 'cause it's over And what can I do? It's over, it's over, all over, it's all over now And the way you looked don't even mean I'm down (It's over) When you kick out the sea and the sun says goodbye There is nothing much to speak of Feelin' down, down (It's all over) Feelin' down, down, down Hey, baby, it's all over Rolled out to sea Lookin' over sunny days (Searchin', searchin') Searchin' for the righteous wave 'cause it's over (All gone, what can I do?) Lookin' from this distant shore (Distant shore) You ain't sailin' by no more 'cause it's over (It is over) And what can I do? It's over, it's over, all over, it's all over now And the way you looked don't even mean I'm down It's over, over (It's over) When you kick out the sea and the sun says goodbye There is nothing much to speak of Feelin' down, down (It's over) Feelin' down, down, down Ah, it's over, it's over, it's over, It's all over And what can I do? Ah, it's over, it's over, it's all over Oh, it's over, it's over Don't shed a tear for me, it's over Don't shed a tear although it's over

Someone put together a great YouTube compilation of the Time tour. I missed that back in the day but this is like getting a 2nd chance. No concert footage - just the audio. It sounds sped up a bit to my ears. Still enjoyed the heck out of it.

I'm pretty sure all the Time tour shows were taken at blistering tempos and for better or for worse I think I know where this came from so I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt that it's not been sped up. I'd love to see the concert footage if any ever surfaces.

I suppose we can assume that the intro tape was played at the correct speed. So it would be fairly easy to see whether or not it matches the speed on the record.

Almost all of the circulating Time Tour audience recordings run a little fast, and based on the static setlist from one night to the next along with the typical format used by tapers back then, you normally have to compensate for "flip gaps" early into the hits medley, often around the intro of Can't Get It Out Of My Head. To match the speed, just compare Prologue or the intro to Roll Over Beethoven, though it's also possible to compare From The End Of The World with the version briefly heard in that rehearsal report footage. Even after pitch adjustment, the band was playing at a breakneck speed back then. While some may see this as Jeff in particular wanting to get things over with faster, I love that period for some of its performances, especially as Richard seemed more than capable of rising to the occasion with some blistering keyboard work.

I received my 40th anniversary release of Tattoo You yesterday, another important album of 1981. I bought the big box collection, the priciest of the lot (with the 3D cover). I'd be happy to have spent less on the Stones if Jeff would have done something with Time, but he didn't, so the cash went to the Stones.
I also took delivery today of the 35 cd package of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers - "The First Generation: 1965 - 1974." $320 USD worth of music that will keep me occupied for months.
That's about $500 USD of legacy releases. Jeff Lynne, are you paying attention to your long time followers who has cash to spend? Evidently not.

I think a lot of fans are in the same situation, in that they have a certain amount of money to spend and if Time 40th doesn't come out then the money will go on something else...

We are practically into November now, with no new word on a Time legacy release or any other news from Camp Jeff. I'm assuming nothing of major import is being released before the end of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if another greatest hits package was released, though.
