I spent my weekend watching Bohemian Rhapsody three times. Every time was just as good as the first, I’d be willing to say it only got better every time I saw it. I was so thrilled to hear Rami won the Oscars yesterday, though I didn’t see them. He is so deserving, congratulations Rami Malek! As for the critics, they can hate on the film all they want, I think it was made beautifully. The break from all the gritty and dark movies out nowadays was so refreshing, and I love how it celebrated and honors Freddie’s life. He’s a legend after all.

I finally saw this last week. I'd been reluctant to see it because I wasn't sure how the film would deal with Freddie's illness and death. Two things changed my mind. First... Rami's successes. Didn't he do well?
Then, a film correspondent said that they were going to see the film yet again. It had to be seen on the big screen. For me, it was now or never.
From the clever alternative 20th Century Fox fanfare, I was hooked. I took the entire film as an impression of the man and the band. It wasn't an in-depth documentary. Rami's performance was so sensitive.
Anyway, I don't think I'll ever tire of this...

I just love the Live Aid re-creation,I wonder if they filmed the whole thing and not just the songs that we saw on film?

Anyway, I don't think I'll ever tire of this... I was reluctant to go for the same reasons and because I was worried the movie wouldn't treat Freddie respectfully. I stopped worrying after that fanfare though. A masterpiece interpretation by Brian (and Roger). Was it preceded by an announcement about switching off your phone and sitting back to “escape from reality”?
It was something along those lines, does anybody remember the exact wording of it?
After Freddie's "hey, hey, hey" I was already starting to become an emotional mess and the film hadn't even started! I just love the Live Aid re-creation,I wonder if they filmed the whole thing and not just the songs that we saw on film? They filmed the whole Live Aid, all the songs. I believe you can see it on the extras available on the Blu ray. I don't know about the DVD.

I stopped worrying after that fanfare though. Me too! As soon as I heard it, I knew that they’d done a wonderful job and that it was going to be a great movie. Now I want to buy it on Blu Ray even more...

A side effect that this film brought and that I'm really tired of is the amount of airplay that all of a sudden Queen is receiving on radios and similar stuff. You put the radio and it's Queen all over. It's as if the band hadn't been existing since 40+ years ago.

If they are getting a lot of airplay you'd imagine they are now Legends of the Jeff Lynne league but while Jeff is praised by just about everyone today Queen (even with a massive movie hit) are forever being attacked by the critics.
I know coolness doesn't matter and critics even less but ELO weren't the coolest group to love twenty years ago yet since Jeff's comeback everybody and their dog is a fan and always has been. Queen are huge with fans yet still not as fashionable as ELO. I might be wrong but that's how it feels to me. Maybe what Queen really needed was a Chris Evans and not a BoRhap movie?

Do you really think so, queenofthehours? I kind of get what you are saying, but if I had to say which band of the two (ELO and Queen) is considered more fashionable, cool and trendy I'd say Queen, without a doubt. And this by people who knows both bands, because 98% of the people know Queen while 10% if most knows ELO.

I'd agree that Queen didn't really need a Chris Evans boost but there must be loads of old school bands out there who would grab at the chance. Although now he's not on a mainstream station any more Chris's influence might not be so weighty.

I can only speak for the younger generation, but Queen is certainly the more “cool” band for most... I’ve only encountered a few people that know who I’m talking about when I tell them my favorite band is the Electric Light Orchestra, without having to mention Mr. Blue Sky or Don’t Bring Me Down. And yet, even with the huge success of the BoRhap movie, Queen only made it to #83 in the top 100 artists of 2018... www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/2018/top-artists(Check out the list at your own risk... it’s disgusting, with a few exceptions... and of course the best band of all is nowhere to be seen...)

If you asked the average fan to name hits by either band, chances are they would know more songs by Queen than ELO.Queen are undoubtedly the bigger band in my eyes (if the worst happened to Jeff,do you really think there would be a tribute concert for him organised by Richard and Roy?) Also queenofthehours mentioned the dreaded 'c' word! A critics' view is only their view and like I've said before, they don't speak for me and never will.

A critics' view is only their view and like I've said before, they don't speak for me and never will. It would be interesting to ask elophile if critics speak for her... Well, since you asked... I think many rock critics are elitist and trend oriented and view bands through that lens - who's cool and who's not, who's well liked among industry insiders and knows how to play the game - instead of critiquing the quality of the music. I love Queen but I HATE biopics and so have boycotted the film!! I don't think Rami Malek makes a good Freddie looks-wise... He 's a good actor but he looks ridiculous with those big chompers. Like a slender caveman. I know Freddie's were HUGE and out of proportion but at least Freddie had a prominent nose to balance it out. Sacha Baron Cohen was originally going to play Freddie, now THAT I might have been able to get psyched about! I just get the overall impression that the movie has watered Queen and Freddie down for mass consumption but, like I said, I haven't seen it so what do I know.
