That's basically what happened (apart from Richard)

I know Roy Wood played the cello for ELO (on their first album only) but was unaware that Jeff Lynne ever did, or the violin for that matter. Are the pictures just a publicity stunt or are there recordings with him actually playing them?

However If you ever see me with a violin it is true, I played one at school

Move over, Bev, Richard, Mik, Mel & Hughie, you’ve been replaced... See? I told you all Richard was replaceable!

Raising your moustache above your beard like that is a rare skill, like being able to raise one eyebrow in a quizzical way. It just proves yet again how special Jeff is

I don't think Jeff ever did play strings (he looks darned good in the photos though) but he still managed to edge out the string section by moving away from writing that kind of song and using synthesizers if he needed to.

Of all the flying tomatos, lettuce and bananas I had received for saying that Jeff could pull off "Time" without Richard, I had the sensation that there was a certain grocery store which's fruits I hadn't been thrown yet. Welcome to the sho... sho... shooooooooo!!!!

He appeared in the videoclip of George Harrison's song "When we were fab" playing the violin, so it's not the first time the makes an appearance doing that. But no, he doesn't play the violin or the cello. If he did, I imagine his records would be full of them.

Don't forget that brief moment in the Rock 'N' Roll Is King video where Jeff can also be seen playing a violin...

It's no use trying to sweet talk me, Helmut! You're still in the dog house! Has your nose been bothering you lately? A proper apology and I *might* remove the curse. It is sweet that you noticed me missing, however. Thank you.
