Hi All,
I just read in the news that the two founders of KISS have sold the Kiss bundle of IP to Pophouse for $300 million USD. And there will be a KISS hologram show, just like what ABBA did.
So this got me thinking....what are the odds of Jeff Lynne selling the ELO empire to a company like that for a large fat check? We know that Jeff wants 100% control, but everyone has their price. I'm sure the amount of money for ELO would dwarf the $4M that Jeff had to get back from Arden.
I can imagine Craig Fruin bringing this up with Jeff as the news of the KISS deal arrived, or even before, or maybe after this last tour. Who knows? Maybe we could hear OTTB in its entirety by a hologrammed ELO.

I would imagine for Jeff to get the maximum exposure and revenue, he would need Bev and Roy's approval? maybe Richard's too. Personally I'd love to see the magnificent 7 on screen in avatar form just like ABBA (which Mrs T and I are seeing in July) I think that the only way Jeff could benefit from this would be the original '7' and IF this were to happen then you'd have the problem of Hughie and Kelly's estate being involved so I think this would be a non starter unfortunately.

Daryl Hall and John Oates have just had a massive fall-out over this very issue. After over fifty years of friendship and collaboration Hall is now suing Oates, to stop him (Oates) selling his rights to their songs (presumably Oates needs Hall's permission to do this but Hall is implacably opposed to it).
As for an avatar type show, well, that just isn't going to happen, is it, for all sorts of reasons, practical, personal and technical?

I'd come to the conclusion that Jeff is an avatar anyway.

Selling the catalog might happen. Or Jeff could just sell Mr. Blue Sky, that's probably the majority of the value anyway.
Avatars? No way.

I heard rumblings about two years ago that Jeff has already started putting the plans in place to ensure his estate is run in a very particular way when the inevitable comes, a key aspect of this involving his eldest daughter consulting with Dhani and Olivia Harrison about how George's catalogue is managed. In other words, I'd anticipate the vault doors remaining mostly closed outside of a few well-curated archival releases once in a blue moon, with his name and image to be tightly protected. At one point before the genre really became a box office phenomenon, there was also supposedly an effort to try and get Jeff to lend ELO's hits to a jukebox musical, but my understanding is that he didn't want such a film competing with his own brand awareness campaign, which centred around Long Wave, the Mr. Blue Sky documentary and corresponding remakes album. I've no idea whether he's been approached more recently about considering that idea again, but it speaks volumes that he's one of the few legacy artists yet to sell the rights to his music for what I can only assume would be an extremely comfortable retirement package. On the other hand, I can picture his likeness - or perhaps even the Mr. Blue Sky persona - working perfectly in the context of an ongoing virtual experience where he gets to perform what more casual fans want to hear for years to come, meeting his expectation of the best every time while providing stunning light shows and maybe even an opportunity for his current band to continue working under the ELO umbrella. That last bit is purely speculative, though it makes you wonder when contemporaries such as ABBA and now Kiss have paved the way for this exciting new frontier in entertainment. (Well, some think it's exciting. If you ask me, I'd rather we saw further vintage stuff polished up.)

I may be wrong but I think that the Xanadu musical contained ELO tracks that weren't in the original film but couldn't swear to it .

If you look at the list of musical numbers in the Wikipedia article, they appear to be in order. I can't say that I remember enough ( or care enough?) to figure out where in the plot these numbers would be or perhaps there were changes to the plot for the musical that made these songs logical choices. Maybe if I read up more on it, I'd know...
