Sad to hear that DJ, Steve Wright has died, aged 69. 'Steve Wright in the Afternooon' on Radio 1,in the 80's was essential listening during my teenage years.

Wow, I've only just found this out. I loved him in the early 80s with all his characters such as Mr Angry, Mr Mad and Sid The Manager.
RIP Steve.

Very sad news, one if not the best DJ who did the BBC afternoon show.
RIP Steve.

Just three days ago I posted in Sights and Sounds that I'd heard Mr Blue Sky on Pick of the Pops. Steve Wright was presenting the show.
So sudden, such a shock. Rest in peace Steve.

was his interview with him a few years back.
lots written and said ... from memory one of the last DJ's who still didn't have to use the official playlists .. he played the music he wanted.

We were away in Tenerife when I noticed Steve's name trending and wondered if he'd jumped ship to another radio station that might value him properly. Could hardly believe my eyes to read that he'd passed on, it just didn't seem real. He always sounded his usual self on radio so it was easy to picture him as he was in the 80s; this is horribly sad news.
From the many tributes paid to him by friends and colleagues, he seems to have been every bit the happy, warm person he came across as being when on the air. And also a proper radio natural who worked really hard to make every show a winner. He'll be very much missed.
RIP Steve
