So...... is Jeff going to send a cease and desist letter to this guy? Very detailed, and includes Bev.

I can only hope that as awareness of this article grows, someone connected to Jeff or the band passes word on to get it pulled, as such unfounded sensationalism isn't something ELO has ever been known for, and I certainly wouldn't call it the best way to maintain interest through what has admittedly been a quiet patch lately.
(Yes, I can appreciate the irony of writing that after some of the historical details I've tried looking into, the main difference being that I'm not using an established journalistic platform to merely generate a few extra clicks.)

This is one of those stories that could be either bullshit or completely true, but judging by how the guy seemingly remembered every detail of conversations he had with people more than 40 years ago, I'm leaning toward BS.
But IF it's true, it's kind of hilarious and goes against Sharon Osborne's narrative that the band were well behaved and boring. Tarts and drugs! Sounds like every band from that era lol.

Jeff, or anyone asking a total stranger for hookers? I don't know. Naughty boy if true.

Frankly, nothing surprises me here. Of course, there were drugs. Not necessarily for Jeff who was quoted as saying that he couldn't even get high until the early eighties. As far as hookers are concerned: These guys were far away from home for months, without their wives. Maybe, it's easier for me to understand this because I am not married, but obviously, sometimes the mood strikes. As long as you treat people with respect I don't find it objectionable, it's rather natural. I also remember Jeff feeling almost offended in an interview when he was asked if ELO had ever had any groupies ...

This incident is one that should become part of Jeff's menu of permitted interview topics - as part of the *dessert* section of the menu. Sharon Arden did say that the band was boring compared to other bands, but it could have happened as Sharon was not around every waking hour of every band day, and in every band member's space etc..... And don't forget, Jeff was much more accessible then. I would not be surprised if this happened as they were rock stars in the 1970s. Mr. Shoemaker is a contributing columnist to an American newspaper, and as such I am sure he is aware that being so stupid as to make a whole story up opens him up to a potential lawsuit. You'll notice that he compliments Jeff in the article and is obviously aware of his work in the years since ELO. So why make a complete bogus story up? Being a former newspaper columnist myself, this is one topic that I would discuss with my editor before the article ran - and maybe that happened here.

The 70's were an era of decadence, especially among celebrities. Read about some of Led Zeppelin and The Who's escapades during the 70's. It makes what's mentioned in this guy's article sound like a Sunday picnic.
Basically what I'm saying is who cares? This whole pearl clutching over something that may or may not have happened 47 years ago is kind of silly.

Wasn’t Jeff meant to be loved up with new girlfriend Sandi at this time?
