*It's just been reported that Denny has died aged 79. A benefit concert was held last week at The Troubadour club in LA for him (it's on YouTube).
*I've put this post in this section as, although Denny has no direct connection to ELO, etc he has a vague link via Bev with DL and The Diplomats and he is a Brummie!

The old rockers are having a tough go of it lately. Denny was touring right up to July of this year.

Yes, it was a pretty shambolic and brief appearance, as I recall.

Really sad news, his early association with Bev will always make him part of ELO history and he went on to even greater successes.
RIP Denny

Yes, it was a pretty shambolic and brief appearance, as I recall. I think Denny sang one verse of Johnny B. Goode at Heartbeat, next to Harrison as I recall in the video.

A well known name, RIP Denny. I saw him at a solo show back in 2017 or 2018 and the crowd loved him. I was quite impressed with Mull of K during that show. In Bev's 1980 book he mentioned that he ran into Denny at a UK awards ceremony - both ELO and Wings received awards. Brummies done good!

Comment from Bev.
I am so sorry to hear that my old friend Denny Laine has passed away. He was such a talented singer, guitarist and songwriter. He had been in hospital for a long time and we were in touch with his wife Elizabeth. We thought he would pull through, but sadly not to be . Denny and I met in 1963 when he asked me to form a group together, which went on to be called Denny Laine and the Diplomats. Later that year we opened for the Beatles at the Old Hill Plaza. He was the most positive person I'd ever met - he was totally sure that he would make it big in the music business and told me that I would too. The world of music has lost a great talent. Rest in peace Denny. Bev.

Nice to see that he and Bev were in touch again as I always thought, for some reason, they had fallen out. Bev does seem to have a generosity of spirit regarding former colleagues and friends and a desire to reach out which I imagine is down to his stage of life now. Pity certain people can't reciprocate!
