"Losing you" is like the average song resulting of all Jeff Lynne's songs during the last 3 decades, stripped of any particular or original trait or feature those songs might have had. Completely unoriginal.

the thing that bothers me most about sci-fi woman is the loud, monotonous rhythm track that just never friggin' stops hire a drummer, Jeff! or quiet it down so the rest of the song can shine through duh, de, duh, de, duh, de, ...
do you suppose the old guys hearing is shot? happens to a lot of old rockers

There was perhaps a good method to the original ELO in terms of Jeff being pushed by Don Arden, and having an engineer as gifted as Mack, and working out of a studio rather than a home.
What I love about the 2016 Stones album Blue and Lonesome was that the record was cut largely live in a few days. I would have loved to see Jeff do that with anyone. But alas, that sort of working was not his style or inclination. And from what I've read elsewhere, Jeff was opposed to 5.1 surround sound reissues because it would reveal how he worked.
I can't comment about his hearing at his age, but a decline in that area is not uncommon.

It is a tie right now, and we normally have 7-8 more people voting. So support democracy!

supposedly, an alternative title for "Sci-fi Woman" was "Wi-Fi Woman" I like to imagine what the lyrics for that version would have been like.

How the world has changed Since you came along How the time has flown As we travel on As I look at all All we ever knew From the rules of life To a love that's true Then I stayed and I wondered how How come you don't need me now? My sciwi-fi woman Sciwi-fi girl So you've gone away To find yourself somewhere I could've found you, girl Yeah, right there in your head You made just a little feel Of what I'm supposed to be Seems like some kind of game That you're playin' with me You might also like As I try to get through to you There's nothin' more that I can do My sciwi-fi woman Sciwi-fi girl Too late to wonder when it all goes wrong Too soon to know that this should carry on Though we said goodbye Many times before I never really thought There would be no more Then I stayed and I wondered how How come you don't need me now? My sciwi-fi woman Sciwi-fi girl Sciwi-fi woman Sciwi-fi girl

yes, one could simply substitute "wi-fi woman" for "sci-fi woman" it seemed like Jeff was thinking of an epic tale of a failed on-line romance but he pulled his punches
maybe I'll do a re-write Wi-Fi Woman - a story of 21st Century Catfishing
