I love that song. Macca's still got it.
It just gets more and more ELO-ish as it goes along.

This doesn't necessarily sound like ELO but I tried out this website - www.gnoosic.com/faves.php . You put your favourite bands into it and it comes up with other music that should be similar. The first thing it came up with was Jeff Lynne, that was helpful . Second was Julian Lennon (but why Julian not John?) and third was this
No, I don't think it sounds like ELO either. After that it chose Moody Blues, Hall and Oates and Ringo Starr for me which is music more similar to ELO but hardly enlightening!

for some reason, radio is not leading with the better songs on Paul's new album but I really like that one
"Despite Repeated Warnings" starts out well but gets a little out of control - could have used Jeff's touch, imo.

I tried that site - gave it ELO, Dire Straights and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. First suggestion was Howard and the White Boys - which didn't ring any bells. But I do remember hearing this one ... many years ago.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhzYUS2a1lE

The Lemon Twigs seem to have adopted Jeff's love of melody and hooks. To me, this is their most ELO/Jeff-like song.

I like the Lemon Twigs a lot. They are also influenced by Procol Harum which makes them doubly loved by me.

Slightly off topic but whenever I hear on the radio "here's Jess Glynne with...." I always have to do a double take. I don't know if she is known to the outside world but Jess is a big name here. Then again, we have the crappy (and I MEAN crappy) radio stations such as heart and absolute on at work so Jeff Lynne is NOT going to be mentioned on there in a million years....

Great song, but sometimes the "opening band" is amazing, too! When I saw ELO on the Time tour in 1981, I certainly LOVED the opening band, Hall and Oates!! I was in teenage fangirl heaven that night!

Jake Shears was in the band The Scissor Sisters, and is now on his own with his first ever solo album. A lot of Elton, George Michael, Bee Gees, and Queen influence, but also some ELO with this gorgeous song!

This sounds to me like something we'd hope Jeff would put on his next album, or at least like something he could have added to AITU -
