Almost like the worst songs of ELO. Well, I like a few of them, but most of them has been totally overplayed. If I never hear Mr. Blue Sky again, I'm fine.

Oh, come on, guys, you can do it better than that!!! Can't believe every ranking is only about the most commercial songs. Please...

It's a very poor attempt at a balanced top 10 appraisal of ELO, as if they were just reading off the track listing from one of pretty much any compilation album you care to mention. Surely, no band's greatest moments boil down to just a list of their best-selling singles?

I would prefer to rank the top 10 based upon their impact upon initial release, not revisionism or the amount of times songs were inserted into movies.
For instance, Mr. Blue Sky - not a big hit in the U.S. (#35 on the Billboard singles chart, lower than other hits off OTTB). I was around when it was released, and I don't consider it a Top 10 ELO song. It was too poppy and paled next to Turn to Stone, Night in the City, Across the Border.

Back in the day, I thought Mr. Blue Sky worked perfectly as the final song to Concerto for A Rainy Day. You have to have the contrast with the other songs. Standing alone, it's a throwaway pop song.

I said it before and I say it now, all the commercial success of the ELO was thanks to OOTB, an album that was less successful in other parts of the world. Discovery and even Face The Music and A New World Record were better received. Mr Blue Sky is, by far, not the best ELO song, not only of the band's discography, but also inside OOTB. Listening to the album recently, I have the sensation that Summer And Lightning is better. And what about The Whale!!! Lot of underrated work by Richard Tandy, who did an amazing synth job. If we don't guide ourselves by the commercial songs, there's lot of better jobs, BUT, if we guide by the commercial songs, Mr Blue Sky would be probably under the top 5... Just an opinion!

Your opinion is just as important as my or anybody else's opinion. (unless it is a lazy journalist who knows nothing about ELO!) If everyone liked the same things then this world would be very boring...
