The year is 2095. Aliens have abducted poor Jeff and taken over his spaceship. What's the last song you listen to before they wipe ELO's music from the face of the Earth? (You'll still retain your memories of the rest of the songs--I'm not THAT cruel!)

I probably shouldn't be making hypothetical question games that even I struggle to answer So many contenders... 10538 Overture, the song that introduced ELO to the world? Hello My Old Friend, originally intended to be the last ELO song the world heard (and I'd get a full 8.5 minutes of ELO for my last listen)? Standin' In the Rain live, the song that gave me chills when it opened my first concert? From Out of Nowhere, with the exhilaration of tuning in across an ocean to hear it for the first time? Sweet Is the Night, or The Way Life's Meant to Be, possibly my favorite ELO tracks of all time? Those incredible vocals and heart-wrenching guitar solo on Moment In Paradise? The expressive, captivating, totally underrated masterpiece that is Big Wheels? The soothing and beautiful One Day? The raw emotion that only Jeff can capture in Telephone Line? But there's one that just might edge out all the others for me... apparently I hadn't seen the entirety of the Zoom tour until the other day, when I discovered that they played One Summer Dream. An absolutely gorgeous performance of an absolutely gorgeous song. I think I'd be pretty content with that...

It would have to be Kuiama for me. Memories are wonderful but only the actual violin solo can produce the magic feeling

Up until 2001 my firm favourite was The Diary Of Horace Wimp. Coming in a close second - a VERY close second - was ELOs finest instrumental, Fire On High. Around that time another track emerged from out of nowhere - apparently a bonus on the Japanese edition of Zoom - Long Black Road. A good thumper of a song! I never tire of it. But... There is just one song that, to me, is Jeff's finest. The lyrics are clever and touching. The playing and production are perfect. Nowt more need be said... Other than, the title - Ordinary Dream.

It would have to be my first ELO purchase, possibly not their best but many memories, Sweet Talkin’ Woman.

Some great choices there and it's really difficult to pick ONE song. I could cheat and say ELO Megamix with all the hits on one disc! I have three songs in mind, all of which have been mentioned above Hello My Old Friend (long version of course) The Way Life's Meant To Be (from my fave album) and Sweet Talkin'Woman (my entry into buying ELO and so many good memories) and after many hours of thought, ok maybe ten minutes...I would pick Sweet Talkin' Woman too.

I’m going down the same road, have to pick my first ELO single purchase Telephone Line. It made me as a young school boy spend all my saved pocket money on ANWR. A great question that will throw up many different songs for various reasons. I look forward to reading them all.

Showdown. Just hearing it conjures up my early teens.

What glory they would acquire by spreading his works across the universe!
