More sad news today as we said goodbye to the legendary Bill Withers. He was the golden voice behind many iconic hits such as Ain't No Sunshine and Lean on Me, but this is my favourite of his which never fails to lift the spirits. Plus it showcases his amazing ability to hold a note. The world is a sadder place without him, RIP Bill

About a month ago, my mother and I were riding together in my car enjoying this funky, bluesy number. Only one Bill Withers...RIP

A million years ago I lived in Yorkshire for a while not an all round brilliant time for me, I had quite a few down days but was lucky enough to still go out and buy records. One very cold Saturday, I went out an bought Bill Withers' Greatest Hits. I of course knew and admired ain't no sunshine/lovely day but know nothing else. There was one track one on the record i can hear now and it takes me straight back to that cold leeds saturday afternoon... it is beautiful and i love it. Hearing of his passing made me look and i found this live rendition

Ain't No Sunshine is one of the best songs of the pop music era. Iconic.

I remember going to see Bill Withers play live at the Hammersmith Apollo in the late 80's I seem to remember that there was a support act .Then nothing ......nothing . We waited .and waited ...... and waited. The mutterings started then the shuffling of feet ,then the low ,almost whispered "boo".The volume increased when a boy appeared on stage. I don't recall what he said.Except for the last sentence.Through increased booing and cat calling he uttered "Please welcome to the stage My Father, Bill Withers" "Shit! Bill Withers is gonna hate us" Whether he did or not I'll never know but he put on a great show ! His M.D one Mike Stevens. RIP Bill you were a cool geezer.
