So young as well ...that is so sad... RIP Marie.
Helmut, I know how much you enjoyed their work. Maybe that will encourage people to re-visit their wonderful back catalogue.

She had been ill for several years,at least she is now free of the pain....
On a lighter note,an edition of 'Pointless' the other day featured the faces of Roxette and although I got Per Gessle,I couldn't remember Marie's surname.

I always thought Roxette were a one, maybe two, hit wonder here in the US, but they had four number one hits, and several others in the top forty.

Sad news indeed for all of us Roxette fans, but if you followed the story in the end it looks like Marie stole 17 years out of death. When she was first diagnosed cancer she was given a very small chance of survival and she was assured there were no chances whatsoever of she ever singing again. I thought back then she was going to pass away. Fast forward several in time several years, and not only was she still alive and in reasonably good condition, but she was back again with Roxette, singing and touring the world. That was like a huge bonus track we have to be grateful for.
I got the chance to see her (and Roxette) in 2011 and 2012. The 2011 concert is still the best I've been to, a party inside a stadium. Roxette has so many upbeat hits and that night they strung them all together so the vibe created inside the stadium was extatic. And Marie had a couple of special moments ("Perfect day" and "It must have been love") where the crowd gave her a huge ovation knowing all she had gone through.
I'll celebrate her life and legacy with my favourite song of her that she wrote for Roxette:

I always thought Roxette were a one, maybe two, hit wonder here in the US, but they had four number one hits, and several others in the top forty. Roxette a one-hit-wonder? This is as unfair as when people think ELO is a one-hit-wonder. One of the reasons I rate Roxette so highly is the amount of great songs they had, I could name at least 40 Roxette songs I love, and at least 8 songs that were big hits, so for me they are the complete opposite of a one-hit-wonder. But then again, the US were always a particularly hard market for them, even during their heyday in the early '90s. It's like the US never took note of Roxette. The geographical areas where they were biggest were South America and Eastern and Northern Europe. But, exactly as happened with ELO, they seem to have been erased from music history. In the same way people would surprise themselves and say "did ELO really sell out 8 Wembleys in 10 days?", "were they ever that big?", they are surprised to find out Roxette sold so many albums and sold out massive stadiums around the world. Yes, Roxette were huge back then, but then they fell inexplicably into a dark hole of oblivion and nowadays when someone checks backs into their history they find it hard to believe that they were so big at any point.

So young as well ...that is so sad... RIP Marie. Helmut, I know how much you enjoyed their work. Maybe that will encourage people to re-visit their wonderful back catalogue. Hopefully, dillwyn! It's criminal that there are so many outstanding songs that are known only to fans, songs that are far better than anything that's being written these days. Today's big artists could just pick one of those unknown songs and cover them.

Two songs that I've always liked are 'Wish I Could Fly' and 'A Thing About You' not big hits UK chartwise but good songs nonetheless...

I am also a big Roxette fan, their last album, "Good Karma" in 2016 is one of their best, do seek it out and play it, along with "Have A Nice Day" from 1999 and "Room Service" from 2001. Can I just add "Anyone" along with "Wish I Could Fly" to be two of their finest songs. I saw them live at London's 02 in 2014, truly amazing night, right up there with Queen and ELO as live bands to see. RIP Marie

As Helmut83 says this news is bittersweet when you consider the positive angle of Marie living 17 years more than expected and using most of that time to carry on singing and enchanting her fans. But losing her now is still so sad and all fans of well crafted music will be mourning her today. She was a perfect example of not letting life's challenges hold you back, it's good to remember her striding the stage defiantly and belting out all those brilliant hits. RIP Marie.

You seem to be more a fan of their newest work, is that right? Although I like the whole of it, I tend to find most of my favourites in the "Pearls of Passion" (1986) to "Crash! Boom! Bang!" (1995) era. Still, there are many excellent later songs. Out of "Have a nice day", besides the two you mentioned, "It will take a long, long time" and "Stars" are incredible songs.

Hi, yes, I've been a Roxette fan since the late 80's, don't get me wrong, I like all their early albums and singles (like Listen To Your Heart, Sleeping In My Car, Fading Like A Flower etc) I just find I like more of the album tracks on their later albums. After yesterday's sad news, play and listening to the words of her last Roxette song from 2016's "Good Karma" April Clouds -

I couldn't help but spend a couple of hours yesterday going through their discography, particularly the songs that Marie sang. I had totally forgotten about the clip of "Neverending Love", the first ever Roxette hit from 1986 (and then it was only a moderate hit at nearby countries level, but it helped spark interest in the band). It is hilariously corny, very '80s but cheap budget '80s, bordering ridiculous. Marie didn't seem to care and was enjoying it like hell, letting her actoral inner self take control (those looks at the camera while singing, haha). Per, on the contrary, looked like he was a bit embarrassed and tempted at how cheap everything was (2:32).
