Strange Magic has been one of my most cherished brain-songs since 1975. Oh how those strings swell like a big ocean wave on the third chorus. Oh how the cellos dance on the third verse. Oh how the background vocals make me giddy at the end.
Oh how I almost fell down when I read, on an ELO forum, that this song is "bland and elevator music."

The US press tour hasn't properly begun. I'm going to a listening party in LA sponsored by SiriusXM on Thursday. Jeff will be there to talk to reporters and answer fan questions. Anything you want me to ask?
I'd be curious to know if there are any plans to follow up the recent 2LP edition of Secret Messages with a similar treatment for Time, since we know of a test pressing that suggested this was to have originally been a double album... I'd be very curious to know too...

Or maybe a good old fashioned CD re-issue of the 2LP Secret Messages, with the added bonus of Beatles Forever.

My main question, though, would be about 2020 and the 50th Anniversary of ELO: What special things are planned? Is there a great big lovely box-set of something coming? On the heels of FOON, this is perfect timing indeed.
(Have I mentioned how much I am enjoying FOON?)

You yourself said a couple of days ago that the wonderful thing of these forums is that each one is entitled to very different opinions. And I love "Strange Magic" too, for the record.

I doubt Sony or Jeff would do this so quickly after the recent 17-track expanded reissue, but who can say what fans have in their private collections and may yet consider releasing as the ultimate gift to other Secret Messages fans?

He did "Strange Magic" at Hyde Park. Didn't he play it at the 2015 warm up shows? Porchester Hall, The Fonda and Irving Place? Irving Plaza was my first time seeing Jeff live and I know I've heard him play Strange Magic in person. I think he played it there and at Radio City too. Jeff singing "Oh, I'm never gonna be the same again" is one of my favorite moments ever in an ELO song and I distinctly remember thinking when he got to that part "Oh my god! He's singing it now, right here. I'm hearing him sing it." I think it was at Radio City. Oh, lookie here!! I went back and checked MY SETLIST from Radio City - must have been at Irving Plaza I heard Strange Magic.

Ask him about how the Wilburys started or what it was like producing The Beatles. I don't think I can ever recall him mentioning either of these. Or you could ask him whether he was ever "plastercasted" by Cynthia.

I just wanted to report, without quoting the actual Blasphemer*, why I almost fell down. *OK, I'm being rather cheeky here. TO EACH THEIR OWN and all that.

Shardender, in my wildest dreams, your Secret Messages book will finally come out one day, and it will include the dream version of Secret Messages as a CD insert.

I just think it's bland and more like 'elevator' music. Well, if a certain music elevates you then it surely must be good enough. tremblinwilbury , which date did you attend in 2016? Very true, Helmut83.
I still don't like Strange Magic
2016... It was a Wednesday, so it'd be the 20th of April. I've found this review of that performance. Luckily, I picked the night when that 'magic' song wasn't performed. What luck!
The big surprises for me were Tightrope and Secret Messages.

Or you could ask him whether he was ever "plastercasted" by Cynthia. Ask about what he did before ELO, like The Idle Race and The Move, I think it would be too much for people to handle 🤯 When I met him, I’d wanted to ask about a certain mondegreen... no, no, not THAT one, whatever makes you think I’d ask about THAT one? ...no, I wanted the final word on the “chicane” vs “she came” debate, but unfortunately I never had a good opportunity to ask. If I ever met him again, I think I’d just ask something humorous... “So, how many pairs of sunglasses do you own? Just the one? A whole bunch of the same pair, in case one breaks? Have you got normal ones for everyday wear and then a fancy pair for special occasions?”
