For those who don't know, I'm the secretary for my local community group. Anyway, the reason I'm bringing this up is because I nearly died from shock when the list of upcoming events was announced at the end of our meeting earlier today, as it's not every day that ELO* comes to a place this size! Indeed, my understanding is that it's never happened, and is unlikely to ever again. Once I'd recovered from the initial surprise, I did everything possible in my official capacity to confirm details for our newsletter, since there doesn't appear to be any information about this outside the leaflet a colleague provided. Several e-mail exchanges later, I can now reveal that David Scott-Morgan is scheduled to appear at the very church where we hold a regular food bank this Friday evening, and I'm now torn as to whether I should turn up to simply report on this or as a fan (preferably brandishing my 2LP edition of Secret Messages to hopefully get it signed). Either way, I'll be looking forward to an amazing night of incredible music and inspirational talk from one of my personal heroes. If anyone in the area feels they might be able to attend, drop me a PM and I'll send you the details - I'd love to have a meet-up...

If it IS in Castleford, then he will be the 2nd member of ELO to visit, I saw Mik with Violinski back in '85 at The Bradley Arms in Cas...

Such exciting news! Of course you should get your album signed, and we want photos! I've been desperately trying to figure out how I was going to get to Brum from California for the performance of Earthrise next November. This is a bit short notice.

Great review ShardEnder and sounds like a brilliant evening, there was nothing on Dave’s website I could see about this gig was it advertised locally? Any pictures you could share?

I'm stuck here in Norwich really wishing that I could have been there last night (could I have gone though? I only heard about it from shardender earlier this week and for all I know it could have sold out anyway) It sounds like it was a great show and intimate gigs like that usually are more special because you get the feeling that the host is singing to you rather than a 10000 crowd. Am I jealous? you bet....

Great review ShardEnder and sounds like a brilliant evening, there was nothing on Dave’s website I could see about this gig was it advertised locally? Any pictures you could share? I'll definitely be sharing a few pictures in the near future, as I need to copy these over for my community group's newsletter... Regarding the lack of advertising for this show, I had to get in touch with the organisers to check it was really happening, since it seemed quite unlikely that even Dave Morgan would ever come to such a small place. However, I quickly learned that all involved had agreed to keep this one quiet due to concerns it would lead to overcrowding problems - the venue itself probably had a maximum capacity of around 150 when seated, and there were genuine worries that people might need to be turned away just moments before Dave took to the tiny stage, which could barely contain him or the two others in this scaled down version of his family group, MOrganisation. I'll have to see if the footage my partner took is of decent enough quality to be uploaded even if it's only here, because it was frequently hilarious to see Mandy not being able to really move around too much, never mind that fact that poor Alan literally couldn't step away from behind his keyboard without disappearing from view. Also, my understanding is that like so many shows by those formerly involved with ELO, Dave left the promotion to those in charge of the event itself, which explains why the flyer I saw leaned so heavily on his prior connections. I've promised not to reveal anything yet, but it seems as if there are already plans for more "secret gigs" over the next few weeks, with one similarly major name from the '60s mentioned as possibly being interested in coming to this little industrial town on the edge of West Yorkshire very soon. Incredibly, not even the local paper was aware of Dave's appearance ahead of this happening, so I'm confident that I was the lone reporter in the small room. I don't think I'll ever forget when Dave first approached me by asking if I was the writer he'd read so much from! For an indication of just how intimate this set was, I ended up accompanying four members from my neighbourhood, plus another close relative who I'd sworn to secrecy about who they were actually going to see live. Believe me, it was a very big deal to have someone from ELO play at a town that's never had anyone this big in my living memory, and I can think of multiple occasions when it felt as if Dave was singing directly at me. During the brief intermission and after the evening's entertainment was over, he stuck around to ensure that everyone who wanted a chat or to simply take a photo with him didn't miss this amazing opportunity, plus he went outside in the snow to check a few of the more elderly concertgoers managed to get down the stairs and to their waiting cars safely. Best of all, as will supposedly be the case with further shows of this nature, the whole thing was 100% free. You likely didn't need me to point this out, but Dave and Mandy were absolutely fantastic in every sense. Who said you should never meet your heroes?
