I received Earthrise from Dave Scott-Morgan in the mail today. I'm quite delighted with it. I hear lots of ELO, although it could have benefited from Jeff's production. Richard learned lots from Jeff, but he doesn't have his, er, Strange Magic when it comes to putting a track together.
Some of the lyrics are hard to understand. I'm sure I hear references to ELO songs. For example, "Under the Blue/Asteroid" references a "green sky" like we hear in "Train of Gold."
Does anyone have access to a lyrics sheet? I googled the lyrics but came up empty. Were they ever published on ELODiscovery or FTM, perhaps?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Some vinyl pressings included an inner sleeve with the lyrics on one side and an introduction to the album's overall story (which is hilarious, BTW) on the other. I can't directly link to the images, but you'll find almost everything here: www.45worlds.com/vinyl/album/sar001I say "almost" because the expanded reissue of Earthrise from 2011 has one very minor difference: Dave Scott-Morgan is supposedly very embarrassed by his original lyrics to Ria, so he had this song remixed into a near-instrumental that now serves as a bonus track. Unfortunately, some of the background vocal parts had been reduced down to other tracks during the mixing stage, meaning they couldn't be fully removed. Much of the actual production work on Earthrise wasn't courtesy of either Dave or even Richard Tandy, but rather Steve Lipson - a cursory glance at the guy's credits on Wikipedia are all it should take to convince you that he's got plenty of his own Strange Magic! Indeed, I've been told that Jeff himself was quite impressed when he learned Dave and Richard would be partly recording Earthrise at ZTT's base of operations, where they learned a few production tricks they managed to pass on to ELO's leader in time for these to be emulated on the songs offered for the Electric Dreams soundtrack. While he's never really spoken of this, Jeff is believed to be a massive fan of Trevor Horn's production work, and you can really hear this influence on Time track Yours Truly, 2095 in particular. Also, I'm sure it hurt when a music critic later had the nerve to dismiss Video! as sounding like a poor man's Trevor Horn.

I saw Steve Lipson in the credits, but didn't have any idea who he was. The lyrics are pretty hard to see on that album insert. Not to worry, Dave Morgan sent me a file with the album concept and the lyrics titled song-ER2. The lyrics to Ria are the same as those on the album insert pictured on 45worlds, as far as I can see,

Dave personally sent you the lyrics? I've said this before, but he really is a top class guy! I'm hoping more than anything that I'll be available to see him finally play Earthrise in its entirety with an orchestra next year...

I think he was a little sheepish, because he was pinging me on Messenger, asking "Where did you get that album?" after I commented on his page that I had received it in the mail. He had forgotten I ordered it from him. He is definitely a top man, whether he forgets his CD orders or not. Are there plans for him to perform Earthrise with a symphony? I'd love to be there too.

According to his official site, Dave's planning to take some time off from performing with Morganisation to concentrate on finishing a new album due in the first half of 2019, then he's going to perform Earthrise in November at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with its in-house student orchestra and a multimedia display based around the 50th anniversary of the iconic space picture being taken (the anniversary of that is actually this year, but it's believed a combination of scheduling conflicts plus waiting to see if Richard will be fit enough to possibly join him led to a slight delay - in the bigger picture, a few months isn't really too big a deal). I'm patiently waiting for more details, as I'd absolutely love to attend this or a later date on the same tour...

Oh well, I'm on his mailing list, so I'm sure he'll feature the album and concert prominently as the date approaches. Wow, that would be something to see!
