Dawes are a great band, and probably the perfect choice for an opening act.
One of my favorite songs of theirs..

Hmmm. Well, I must say that My first impression from this song at least is that they aren't my cup of tea. There cool bands that are influenced by ELO. I wish they had chosen one of tthem. These guys don't sound ELO influenced to me and they look like hipsters.
Sorry for being obnoxious! I guess they dont look like that bad of hipsters now that I looked at some of their other stuff. However, dang, I hate this rootsy stuff. I wish he would find a fun band that's influenced by Discovery and plays synthesizers to open for him.

That's interesting news. Thanks for that Chippa ! I don't really pay attention to current bands, so I didn't know anything about them. Well, they don't provoke really strong feelings from me either way so far, which means I will be a polite and mildly entertained member of the audience until ELO comes on and I lose my mind! I must say that I do love the very domesticated and well-behaved rooster and those cute little kids in the video. Adorable on both counts! I've said it many times before, but I don't think anything can top the combination of my two favorite bands together: Hall and Oates (opening act!!) and ELO on the TIME tour in 1981!

The drummer even looks a little like young Jeff...

The drummer even looks a little like young Jeff... Oh deary-me!! That's a young man who's hair growth I approve of. Okay, okay I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I like Dawes. When the Tequila Runs Out, Time Spent in Los Angeles, From a Window Seat are good songs to check them out.

does anyone think that Jeff might add some dates in the USA at the back end of the tour? 3 months of solid touring may be about his limit at age 70, but it does seem like there is a big geographical hole in the Southeast - Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, DC - bring the space ship in for a couple more stops

I can't see why Miami was left off! It's a huge market and it's so far from all the other locations they are performing! Charlotte/Atlanta/DC would all be wonderful for me -- just few hours drive!! I would go if I could drive and stay with relatives (I have relatives in all three of those places), and get a cheap ticket that still gave me a good view of the stage (after splurging for a great one in Philly), and of course, since school would be starting right about then, it would have to be on a Saturday, to allow for travel without missing work right at the start of the school year... A lot of ifs to make this work for me... We'll see! As long as people like me are willing to travel to Philly to see ELO, I guess they don't see enough reason to venture to the southeast! I'm just glad I'm able to make Philly happen!

I thought of a reason Miami may not have been considered, especially at the end of the tour: Late August is just about the peak of hurricane season... But what about the rest of the southeastern US?

Jeff could always see if Widowmaker are still together? I remember Bev writing about them (and how ELO never really got on with any of their support acts) and how they were the biggest bunch of lunatics they'd ever met and that their drummer, "Aerial Bender "...once got kicked in the balls so hard they turned black and blue!"
