I like an open air gig as much as indoors but is one better than the other for acoustics? My last gig was the Wembley show and the sound was good ,( far better than the old Wembley which was known to be poor) I'm seeing them again at Manchester at the indoor MEN arena. I saw The Cure there recently and that too seemed excellent sound wise, but is there any scientific evidence to prove if one is better than the other?

I have no idea, but if I had to guess I'd say a properly acusticized indoors venue (with walls that absorb noise instead of making it rebound for example) should be easier for setting the sound properly. Outdoors gigs in big places have the problem of sound traveling slow through the air, that's why the loudspeakers which are far away from the stage should have a bit of delay, so that the sound coming out of them is in synch with the (less loud) wave of sound travelling through the air from the stage and other speakers.
In any case, I think open air gigs have a magic that and indoors usually hasn't.
