For our friends in the states, did you know that the tour took place ONLY in North America? We Brits didn't get a chance to see it even though ELO were just hitting it big here. With thanks to 'Jeff Lynne song database'

It's fun to imagine yourself at concerts you could not attend. If only I had known, and if only I had been old enough to attend! I only discovered ELO in 1977, some time before my 12th birthday, when my older brother, who worked in a record store, brought home some promo albums, among them ANWR. I fell in love with it right away! I would have been oblivious to concert ads at that age, and I am certain my parents would not have allowed me to go, but I do remember the promos on TV for the album ANWR . By the time The Big Night tour came along in 1978, I was a seasoned fan, and my parents, who were sick of hearing me talk about ELO all the time, let me go to the concert with my adult brother and his wife - only fitting since he introduced me to ELO in the first place!

I didn't see any promotions for the ANWR tour, but I caught The Big Night. Unfortunately there was no space ship that night.

StrangeMagic There was no spaceship in Baton Rouge when I went to see ELO there in 1978 for "The Big Night." It was so big and cumbersome that they used it at every other venue. It took too long to set up and take down, apparently.

This review refers to ELO's show at the Sports Arena in San Diego on January 30th, 1977. It's from The Triton Times, which seems to be a San Diego student newspaper. I was amused by Jeff's comments on Mik's shyness.

Parts of the third to last paragraph could have been written for a recent show.
