I missed my slot last week as I was away in London and although it's not my turn this week, jrmugz has asked me to go ahead and post anyhow.
This week I'd like to feature Norman Rockwell.
Now, I have no idea about the man other than he's American and drew pictures for magazines. Sometimes when you want to show off about your favourite artists you could write for hours all sorts of interesting facts about them. But I cannot about Norman. Maybe one day I'll read a book about him and perhaps his life will be as interesting as I find his work but in the mean time I think it's just okay to like an artist superficially for their work.
A lot of people are put off by art and galleries because they don't think they know much about art but the whole point is that you don't need to know anything. Just look with your eyes and your brain will come later. Nobody needs to know about art to enjoy it. Just look. If you don't like something you need never look at it again but you never know what you might see. Just because you are told to like something doesn't mean you have to. I could never get on with the Mona Lisa but I get on ok with Norman Rockwell.
What I like most about him is that his work is so full of character and so lifelike. I like many of his pictures but this is a favourite, it's called The Jury Room -
