Missed that it was my turn this week, so apologies for the late start!
To follow on from QOTH's Saint-Saëns feast, five from my collection of 45RPM singles. Old, yes, but not classical - however the first is a cheesy re-cycling of the C Minor Organ Symphony finale:
If I had Words - Scott Fitzgerald & Yvonne Keeley
You're My World - Darryl Braithwaite
Turn The Page - Jon English
Hollywood Seven - Jon English
Lady - Little River Band (original single release was 1978)

Looking forward to playing these, I do know "Lady" by LRB and love it, so certainly looking forward to cranking that one throughout the week, and looking forward to the others as well.

Well, I'll break with my recent tradition and be on time for my review this time. 01. "If I had Words" by Scott Fitzgerald & Yvonne Keeley - Like the South American anthematic chorus and the beautiful collage of voices. Both singers really good, a little touch of Elton John and Steve Winwood for Fitzgerald. That was fun, I will be playing it again! 02. "You're My World" by Darryl Braithwaite - Wow, this is a cool record collection, you have Plat! Another great inspiring chorus. Kind of a "Sweet Caroline" kind of song, but maybe not quite as cheesy. Ha ha. 03. "Turn the Page" by Jon English - Ah ah ah. Nobody covers Bob Seger, that's like covering Michael Jackson, can't cover the definitive versions. Still like it because it's a great song. But hey, no need for anyone to re-do "Strawberry Fields Forever", and same with this song. However, I do admit, sounds like Jon English has a good voice, and doesn't do it a total injustice by any means. The orchestral touches are pretty decent. 04. "Hollywood Seven" by Jon English - Interesting theme for a song, enjoy the story and the flow song. Captivating. Definitely a song Roger Daltry should cover on one of his solo albums, he'd probably knock it out of the park too. Sounds a lot like his solo stuff; and definitely his style of singing, which is certainly a great compliment of Jon Stewart's singing. 05. "Lady" by Little River Band - Really nothing to not like in this song. Great singing, harmonies, verse, and chorus. Very romantic song. Quite the classic for sure. The chorus packs a great punch. Star Rating: 4.6 out of 5 Prime Cuts: "If I Had Words", "Hollywood Seven", "Lady" Bottom Line: I can see where these would definitely be among my favorites in my 45s collection, if I had one. Great stuff, Platypus, thoroughly enjoyed them. If you're marked down for a next time before the year closes out, then looking forward to it. ha ha. Jim

Nobody covers Bob Seger, that's like covering Michael Jackson, can't cover the definitive versions. I don't understand, can't cover a great song because you can't do it better than the original? I'd better stop with Still The Same then, I'm terrible...

Well anyway, I enjoy Justin Hayward's Stairway just as much as I enjoy Jon's Turn the page, so no-one can take that away from me.
