Anyone saw the women's badminton final? Absolutely disgusting behaviour by the Spaniard Carolina Marin during all game long. Shouting histerically to her opponent's face each time she won a point (or worse, when her opponent missed), protesting to the referee, faking injuries each time her rival was playing better, asking for medical assistance only to ask her coach for tactical instructions, going for the towel every point so as to irritate her opponent... the worst example of sportsmanship I saw during these games. She doesn't deserve that medal.

As the GB team arrive home on their specially chartered plane today, here are some final thoughts:
- It's sad that Sir Bradley Wiggins is going to retire. Cycling and sport in general won't be the same without him. To me he's the Jeff Lynne of sport, just a bloke you could see down the pub who just happens to be a genius in his chosen field. And who does and says just what he likes because genius doesn't conform! I mean anybody who delivers a Tour de France winner's speech like this: “Right, we’re just going to draw the raffle numbers… It’s been a magical couple of weeks. Some dreams do come true. My old mother over there, her son has just won the Tour de France… Thanks again. Have a safe journey home. Don’t get too drunk.” Is surely up for the "Legend-With-No-Airs-And-Graces Jeffrey Lynne Award"?
At these games he became GB's most decorated Olympian with 8 medals and afterwards posed for this lovely picture with GB's other two most decorated Olympians, Sir Chris Hoy and Sir Steve Redgrave ("I just think chucking knighthoods at boat people's a bit much" - Brian Potter ).
Only a few days later history changed again when Jason Kenny won his 6th gold to match Sir Chris. Give him Tokyo and he'll beat even Bradley and yet he is still very shy and humble about his achievements. He even packs his kit in a 'bag for life' :
Even though GB still has Jason, losing Brad made me think about this year of ELO that we have had. Both Brad and ELO are fleeting moments of joy which we must make the most of because we can only experience them for a short while before time moves on and we are left only with happy memories.
- Didn't team GB seem to do best in sports which involved a lot of sitting down? Is it a British thing? Rowing, cycling, equestrian... maybe a cup of tea to drink at the same time could help us do even better?
- Why did none of the media run the headline 'Magic Mo-Ments' for Mo Farah's double win? I could be a newspaper editor .
- I didn't hear 'Mr Blue Sky' played AT ALL. Not once in all the sports coverage I saw. A miracle!

That's fantastic! It could be called "build your own reality".
It reminds me of when North Korea organized a parallel football World Cup in their country and guess who won it? North Korea itself, defeating Portugal in the final by 7-0. The strange detail is that the Portuguese and the participants from other countries all had slanted eyes.

NO!! - Really? Although somehow I'm still not as shocked as I should be, I wouldn't put anything past that lot.

BSJ , I'm sure for the next Olympics snow shoveling will finally be admitted as an official discipline and we'll have you sharing your expertise on the sport with us in this very section (if you are not competing yourself at the games, that is!).

As much as I like you and your comments, I have to disagree a tad with this... Sir Brad is undoubtedly the most gifted cyclist these shores have produced BUT.......his actions are so unlike what Jeff would do, could you honestly see Jeff sticking his tongue out at the playing of the national anthem?

Smart ass. Taunting me because I've no interest in the Olympics! Don't be surprised when seeing me on my shovel executing gold metal worthy aerials and halfpipes!
Ooooops!

No, I can't imagine Jeff doing that at all. I can imagine him doing a spot of tongue-poking-out in his wilder days but not at the national anthem.
I actually forgot about that. I'd thought about the post before I knew about it. I didn't know Brad had done it as because of the time difference I think I went straight to bed after the race and never saw the medal ceremony. I don't think Brad meant anything by it though, probably just trying to lighten an intense moment.
I think on the whole Jason Kenny is the strongest candidate for a sportsman Jeff Lynne - no ego and he looks as if he can't believe his own talent.
