queenofthehours , no clue who Joe Brown is, so checked him out on Wikipedia. Did any of his songs chart in the US? All I know is that Joe had a few top ten singles in the UK back in the day but I don't believe in charts! What do charts tell us anyway?
They don't tell us that Joe covered 'Mr Blue Sky' on ukulele for a recent album. They don't tell us that Joe was actually born in Lincolnshire and was "evacuated to London" during the war! Well, that's what he said at the gig! And they don't tell us about the great relationship between Joe and George Harrison. George was best man at Joe's second wedding in 2000, something I didn't know until Joe spoke about it at the concert.
I did find a brilliant video last year which has disappeared featuring George and Joe as "local residents" of Henley on Thames disgruntled that the council was pulling down an old cinema to build a Waitrose. But here's George, Joe, Jools and a few others playing a song together that appeared on Brainwashed -

Just back after a few days in London, seeing Chris Rea on Sunday night at the Hammersmith Appollo. He makes Jeff look positively chatty, only spoke to introduce the band members, no banter at all, maybe he is ashamed of his 'Boro accent, which is a lot stronger than mine, even though he hasn't lived there for years. It was a fantastic show nevertheless, considering how ill he has been in recent years. The last song he performed was "Driving Home for Christmas", complete with falling snow, it was great.

Just bought tickets for Earth Wind and Fire in Greensboro in June for me and Hubby!! It will be an outdoor concert--a fun way to celebrate the end of the school year and my birthday! Can't wait!

Mr Musette and I had a cheeky trip up to London to see a charity gig by Roger Daltrey last Thursday. Roger wasn't the main attraction for us but he did amaze us both with the amazing quality of his voice. He was hitting all sorts of notes pitch perfect, I've never seen him live before but the records don't do him justice, when he was younger he must have been even more impressive. He had a nice bit of between-song chatter too, I'd highly recommend seeing him if you have the chance. The main reason for us going was that Doctor Pepper's Jaded Hearts Club Band were supporting, I've posted some clips from them playing at birthday parties for their friends before but this was I think only their second official gig. It's a kind of supergroup including Matt out of Muse on bass, they play the rockier Beatles songs in a most pleasing and enthusiastic way. They were fabulous, of course. Only fly in the ointment was the dimwit woman compere who kept calling them "Sergeant Pepper's...." despite most of us yelling "Doctor!!! Doctor ffs!" at her. Here's a link to an NME review of DPJHCB with videos of most of the songs - if you are a Beatles fan I think you'll like them www.nme.com/news/music/last-night-matt-bellamy-graham-coxons-beatles-tribute-band-stormed-royal-albert-hall-2271868

Here's Roger with an ELO connection - he starred on the Moody Blues Cruise back in 2014 and performed one number with help from a special guest:

Like "Taxman". Seems the singer did a bit of a Jeff coming in late beginning of the song.

In early August we'll be going to another outdoor concert, like last year, at the North Carolina Museum of Art. They do a great job of bringing in (non-English language) international groups to our area. Paris Combo is a French group that Hubby and I both like. They've been around for about 20 years. One of my students actually introduced me to their music about 15 years ago. They have a fun style that combines a variety of different musical and cultural influences. Lots of their songs are very dance-able. Here's a video of one of their songs (with subtitles).

Spent another evening with the brilliant Tragedy (All Metal Tribute to The Bee Gees and Beyond) in Cardiff last night, if they come anywhere near you please do yourself a favour and go along. They opened with a metal version of Islands in the Stream, then epic versions of such classics as Funky Town, Sweet Caroline, Take Me Home Country Road, It's Raining Men (heee! this was extremely awesome) and of course Bee Gees classics such as You Should be Dancing, Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love and of course Tragedy. Here they are doing justice to Stayin' Alive, the concert footage is pretty much what we had last night, about the same size venue and they wore the same tiny spangly shorts etc and threw glitter on us at every opportunity
Here they are poking fun at Grease and Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit vid in You're the One That I Want
They really know how to play too, and there were loads of hilarious comedy moments, it's such an epic and escapist show you can't help but come out grinning (and sparkling)
