Congrats to Napoli, they play an attractive style of football. I thought they had a good chance of winning the champions league this season.

I'm an American but I have been following Jeff's team, the Blues, for a few years now. This season, I have begun to take an interest in Aston Villa. The season is over for the Blues but Villa is still going. They don't end the season at the same time for all leagues?

Generally they do ... the season for EFL teams (including Birm) has now moved on the playoff stage (the winner in playoff final will earn promotion to the one above) alongside those who have already been promoted. This year is an odd one because of the World Cup half way through ... might be some hangover from that mid season break I guess. There is also a big cup final (FA cup ) to come ... no idea who is it as I stop looking at it when Cardiff get knocked out Interestingly tom hanks started supporting villa as he liked their name Birm are already threatened with a 2 point deduction next year because of a failed takeover

Inter (CL), Roma (EL) and Fiorentina (CL).
They say that Serie A is boring, ugly stadiums, and so on. But this year we have three teams in all the finals. Not so bad...

Congratulations to Spain! After South American teams won the World Cup, the U-20 World Cup and the Olympics, it's a great thing that the Nations League was won by a European team, to even things out a little bit.

HELP! I am an American who follows the Birmingham City Football Club, the Blues. They have had a game postponed with Middlesbrough because of the Blues progress in the Emirates FA cup third round play. What does that mean??? How is it that they qualified for what sounds like an important competition when they are in 20th place in their own division??? And while I'm asking questions, is Aston Villa in this Emirates FA cup thing too? After all, they're a better team than the Blues. Thank you for the info.
OH! Jeff Lynne has said, years ago, that there are two teams that take the field as Mr. Blue Sky plays. The Blues are one, who is the other team? I suspect it's Villa but I cannot prove it. Thanks again.

Practically every team in the U.K. qualifies for the FA cup, so the competition starts off with very minor teams playing each other and as it progresses the higher ranking teams are added in the competition. So let’s say Shard End had a team in theory they could win the FA cup if they kept winning the cup matches, this is why you sometimes see much smaller team play the bigger ones. So yes Aston Villa are in the FA cup and are still in the competition this year as they beat Middlesbrough in the last round.
Aston Villa don’t use Mr Blue Sky, I know Coventry City have used it not sure if they still do, their nickname is The Sky Blues.

Very interesting, tremblinwilbury , thank you! The jersey looks amazing (a little bit tight on the belly for those of us who are getting older, granted ). It's nice to see people from Puerto Madryn (ironically, a very Welsh city) paying homage to the the man who gives name to their club. You can realize how important William/Guillermo Brown was in our history by the fact that there are two clubs named after him on that division, plus -this is not mentioned by the article- a couple more on other divisions.

They are still alive though, although it's not looking good for them.

Anybody else notice that the Birmingham Blues, Jeff's team, is in 1st place?! I've been keeping an eye on them for a few years and this is the first time I've seen them in first place. Fantastic!
