I honestly can't call these next two games .... maybe Croatia as Morocco's hearts will have been broken and injuries must have an impact at this point.
The conventional talking heads over here are all convinced France will win ... they have been wrong all tournament and I don't believe them now.
Good luck Helmut83

Thanks, Dillwyn! The conventional talking heads over here are all convinced France will win ... they have been wrong all tournament and I don't believe them now. Are you sure about this? My English friend who is into betting tells me that in betting houses in England, Argentina is up in the odds, by a small margin but still up.

Huge congrats to Argentina, and to Messi for living the dream at last I'm a complete footie novice, but even I can appreciate what an immense game that was - exactly what a world cup final should be

Thank you, guys! The congratulations are appreciated. As you know football is a bit of a national obsession here, and in a country where so many people are having a hard time, winning a World Cup title provides a reason for celebration and for joy. I agree that the final was the best in a very long while, maybe the best ever, after so many finals that were stingy and a complete bore. Credit to France for having played with the heart of a true champion, even when for most of the game our guys were dominating. As queenofthehours said, it was time for a change after several World Cups won by different European teams.

It was a brilliant match! I wasn't 100% committed to watching it even though I wanted to follow the result but by the time I tuned back in when there was ten minutes to go and it was 2-2 I was hooked.
The half hour of extra time was some of the best football I've ever seen and I'm the kind that a. isn't fond of non-England matches and b. believes extra time and penalties aren't "real football". I especially abhor penalties mostly because England lose so terribly so often at them (my nerves and penalties don't mix as I get older!) and because it resembles a training exercise. But the France/Argentina penalties were the best I've ever seen. It's rare to see a match where each side is so equal and puts up the same amount of fight.

Helmut there are some astounding images coming from the celebrations.
More people turned up to the celebration parade than live in my country just incredible!

Yes, Dillwyn! The turnout was insane, it was declared a holiday so people could go and greet the players so that helped too. The Buenos Aires urban area has 15 million people (1/3rd of the country's total population) so there was plenty of people to flood the streets and highways.
Personally I opted to stay at home and follow the events on TV, comfortably sitting at my living room with A/C. I knew it would be a chaos, it was guaranteed, because Argentina, so why even bother? I have friends who waited for almost 4 hours under the sun only to have the bus cancelled, so in the end my decision proved to be the wise one.
The crowd was so big that in the end the bus could barely advance and the players were tired after a long trip across half the world, so they took a detour to a nearby heliport, got the players on 3 or 4 helicopters and paraded them over the crowd a couple of times so that at least the people waiting felt like they had greeted the heroes. Then they took the players back to the AFA (Argentina Football Association) so they could have some rest.
