Who's FRED? OK I'm kidding, why would Jeff do a photo shoot with the TIME robot? Nobody will know what/who it is apart from us hardcore fans and we would buy the album anyway.....hmmm.....TIME 2? I do hope the Hyde Park concert has made Jeff realize just how good the original ELO sound was and steers the sound back to that wall of cello's,choirs and poly-synths I'm looking forward to this

What does "original values" mean, anyway? I'd love for Jeff to pick up where he left off with Secret Messages and his contributions to the Electric Dreams soundtrack, but I seriously doubt another '80s style kitchen sink production would be too commercial now. Saying that, maybe he's just happy to return to the classic ELO style (after years of dismissing this later period as being push button music created by someone who at the time increasingly felt like a typist) without the pressure of selling huge amounts? Surely it didn't slip his mind that recent titles have only sold in modest amounts to mostly* just hardcore fans who'd give anything for one last proper, dense-sounding album rather than another Zoom, Armchair Theatre or even Long Wave... If anyone can do this, I've faith that his effort would be less retreading old ground and more a case of him doing something new with this formula he wasn't able to before. Maybe this is really why nothing from Xanadu, Time, Secret Messages or Balance Of Power was tacked on the recent Mr. Blue Sky project? Could it be that we're really getting a return to the synth-heavy approach? Oh, I can sure dream!
*The inevitable new greatest hits package or reprinting of an existing compilation is where the casual buyer will go, as always. However, at this stage we've still yet to hear whether Sony plans on releasing anything from the vaults to coincide with this latest title. Am I asking too much for the Trojan Tapes Sessions as part of an Anthology-type set along with some home demos and an expanded Secret Messages that has the original double album tracklist plus at least something from The Garden Rehearsals or even the long-rumoured document of the Time Tour that nearly became the second disc of what should have been ELO's final album until Jeff wrote enough material to fulfil his contractual obligation using only studio material?

As much as I would love to hear Jeff's music sounding like OOTB or Secret Messages again, it seems like Zoom gets more flack than it deserves. I personally love that album, and would not be upset if the new album sounded like that. Especially if the songs are gonna sound anything like "One Day."
Really, Jeff could fart into a trumpet and I'd still buy it. Just as long as it's new and original.

I keep thinking that in reality, up until a year ago, this was going to be a solo project, written and recorded (mostly) at the same time as he was recording Long Wave.
He has said that his new material was going in a slightly different direction to what people might expect of him. Of course that requires a lot of reading between the lines by the reader.
Adding ELO to this project is going to be fascinating. I don't get the impression it was going to be an ELO sounding album. But he'd have to re think the overall sound if it was under the ELO name.
I don't know quite what to expect. It will be brilliant though.

It will of course be Jeff solo with perhaps a plink or a plonk from Richard. No Bev, no other former member, no way.
Totally agree Janne,it's only ELO in name and this will just be a glorified solo album as was Zoom (cue the hate....) Zoom was just Jeff with a little help from Richard, Armchair Theatre was a solo album with a little help from Richard so whats the difference. Sorry to be negative here, but to me ELO is something more than just Jeff and Richard, will I buy the album? yes of course but I will be yearning for the days of Bev, the strings, Louis and Mike De Albuqueque .......
ELO IS something more than just Jeff and Richard. ELO is magical strings, studio wizardry, a bit of glitter and a lot of pop. Solo Jeff is less of a statement, less glossy, closer to Jeff as a musician and more of a classic rock style.
ELO is pop, solo Jeff is rock that's the difference I think.
Of course Zoom was coloured by post-Wilbury Jeff and so will this new record and that will give it a different element. As long as it sounds right it will be an ELO album whoever is playing on it .

WHOA. Just noticed something interesting: At the bottom of Columbia's post. See it? "www.JeffLynnesELO.com" If you click on it, you just get a 404 Error. Why would a professional website like Columbia just assume the name of Jeff Lynne/ELO's website? They wouldn't. I think a new website is about to be launched, and whoever posted the article thought it was already live.

I do some radio work in my spare time and you do get to pick things up from various sources. If the rumours I'm hearing prove correct then there might be something nice in your Christmas stockings this year. And some live dates in the US and UK in Spring/Summer 2016. Those same rumours suggest Jeff's up for it as long as long as the tour schedule is reasonable. He's reported to be still cautious about demand but given the Hyde Park gig sold out after an hour the moment he was announced as the headline act he may be pleasantly surprised again.
Like I say this is industry rumour and I have no inside information. But hey, I'm sure you won't mind me sharing a rumour. Having said that I wouldn't post it if I didn't think it had legs.

Honestly, I just care about the album release date at this point. A tour would be wonderful, but I doubt he'll play in Minneapolis. If that album appears in my Christmas stocking, I'd be plenty happy with that alone.

I mean a new album will be great but the prospect of actually laying my eyes upon and sharing the same time and space with my hero Jeff Lynne is just beyond anything for me!
