Is the little chappie (Fred, not Jeff!) a clue that that the album will be full of the old ELO pizzazz? I certainly hope so and the thought makes me very excited indeed. That thought gets me really excited! Also, by the background of that photo, it looks as if they're shooting promo pics for the album/sleeve. I think that's a subtle way of saying that it will be coming very soon. I'd love to have it before Christmas, but I could wait until as late as February or March 2016. ...ah, who'm I kidding? Release the album tomorrow, Jeff!

This new information is like getting a Christmas advent calendar - you know the Big Day is coming but you have to count each chocolaty day, until you finally get to the door you've been so eager to reach.

I know that Jeff was promising something different from his recent sonic formula, but the return of Fred has me in hope that he's returning to the sound of Time, if not something with more electronic elements. Also, since Columbia is owned by Sony, does this mean they're back on good terms after Jeff's brief period on the Frontiers label? If this is the case, will we still get the long-rumoured second album of ELO remakes that he'd supposedly got in the can under his previous contract, or are Sony planning to continue with their original plans? For those who don't remember, long ago we had Rob Caiger speaking of his proposal for a 30th anniversary 2CD Legacy Deluxe Edition of Secret Messages, plus expanded versions of Eldorado, Discovery and Time more in line with the later remasters issued together as the Classic Albums Collection. While the anniversary for Secret Messages has long since passed, it would be great if this arrived next year for when the album turns 33 1/3, which is just around the time I'm planning to release my book on its creation, possibly as part of a series by this name! (How's that for serendipity?) At the very least, we can probably expect something from Columbia's parent company - even if it's just yet another greatest hits type package...

Well here's the official press release: jefflynneselo.com/news/258463"the first new ELO music in 15 years." - If they mean exactly 15 years, then we're looking at a 2016 release date. However, the last several releases of Jeff Lynne ("Long Wave," "Armchair Theatre/Zoom remastered" and "Hyde Park BluRay") were announced no more than two months before their respective release dates. This leads me to believe that the album will either come out in November 2015, or Q1 2016. Either way, it's looking like the new album is no more than half a year away from us!

This information was posted to Jeff's Facebook page "Jeff Lynne's ELO has signed a global deal with Columbia Records and is set to release a new ELO album! The first new ELO music in over a decade! More news coming soon!" Yay!!! This news was a great way to start the day! My thoughts: Jeff looks very nice in his Nehru jacket and pointy shoes! Although he looks like he might be thinking "Hurry up and take the picture - these trousers are TIGHT! unomusette Maybe he got his shoes at The Magical And Ridiculously Long and Pointy Shoes Shoppe. Maybe Fred is with Jeff because the new album is a sequel to TIME. Like Jeff went off into the future and that's where he's been this whole time and now he's come back to us. Whatever it means or doesn't mean I'm happy that Jeff is embracing ELO in all it's glory again and I cannot wait til the new album comes out!!!!

I wish they would use the original spaceship logo in all its glory, circa NWR, OoTB, Discovery and Xanadu.
They should have done a full refurbishment job like on a VW Campervan.
No need to have the battered, time affected version that doesn't owe him any money and hasn't had a manufacturers service for 35 years. Reminds me of my Audi A4.

One man and his robot - Jeff doesn't seem too pleased to be posing with Fred, but maybe he's just desperate for the loo. Photo posing is such a long process.
Sony is one of the big guns? Well then, that looks as if this album will be very well promoted. How can it fail with plenty of money behind it? That's the main thing - promo. Jeff has a huge fan base (yes, there are some fans out there not belonging to this website :-)) as proven by the great reception at Hyde Park. Surely if this album can reach those people and more the reaction will knock even Jeff's socks off.

This is wonderful news. I wonder if it'll be Jeff Lynne solo (with maybe Richard) or he'll reach out to Bev Bevan (who I think might still be touring with Jasper Carrot and co.) -- If this becomes Lynne, Tandy and Bevan I'll eat my hat. It will of course be Jeff solo with perhaps a plink or a plonk from Richard. No Bev, no other former member, no way.
Totally agree Janne,it's only ELO in name and this will just be a glorified solo album as was Zoom (cue the hate....) Zoom was just Jeff with a little help from Richard, Armchair Theatre was a solo album with a little help from Richard so whats the difference. Sorry to be negative here, but to me ELO is something more than just Jeff and Richard, will I buy the album? yes of course but I will be yearning for the days of Bev, the strings, Louis and Mike De Albuqueque .......

The last I read, Bev and Jeff were on speaking terms again. I don't think he'll be on the album or tour, though.
For a huge label like Columbia to sign an older artist like Jeff is pretty rare, isn't it? They must hold him in high esteem!
