Yesterday on 'This Morning' (English morning/midday programme) a feature on 'I'm a Celebrity...' they had Jungle playing in the background, and because of Jeff's high profile at the minute was rather apt.

Recorded BBC Four's Top Of The Pops 1980 which was shown at 1am this morning. Just watched it. Bev Bevan made an appearance, talking to the DJ, Tommy Vance about his book, The Electric Light Orchestra Story. Then the programme's resident dance troupe, Legs & Co, danced to Don't Walk Away.

Where I work we listen to an 80s radio station. Expectedly, there is a LOT of ELO. Unfortunately, 99% of this seems to consist entirely of 'Hold on Tight'. However the other day we were treated to 'Calling America' which was a rare delight. Not only this but 'Got My Mind Set on You' followed straight after. It's moments like this that make life more bearable .

Ok, this is great. Jeff’s CD was to arrive Saturday, by mail. I told tk6 “We ain’t leavin’ this house until it’s here.” Tick-tock… “Come on BSJ,” pleaded tk6, “Let’s just run up to the grocery store.” “Nope another half hour.” Tick-tock… “Ok, let’s go.” In the store less than 2 minutes, “Turn To Stone” is on the store speakers. There is an ELO life-force hanging around out there! It just knew.

Yep. They should have used that track, instead of that weak Oasis cover.

Yep. They should have used that track, instead of that weak Oasis cover. I love that Oasis song, and the cover version. But of course, AITU is better.

This is something that I heard years ago, but I think it's still worth sharing now. I was driving in my car a few years back, then Don't Bring Me Down came on the radio. After the song finished, the DJ said, "That was 'Don't Bring Me Down' by the Electrical Light Orchestra!"
I cringed so hard. Get it right, people.

British forumheads - today on Radio 4 at 11.30am, there's a half-hour programme on the song Mr Blue Sky. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06pttqpHere's the programme description: ELO's brilliantly off-beam classic, Mr Blue Sky, is explored in this week's Soul Music. It was released as a single in 1978, having first appeared on the ELO album 'Out of the Blue' in 1977. Written by Jeff Lynne, it was a No. 6 hit in the UK, and has endured on the radio airwaves ever since. Contributing to the programme: Tracey Collinson whose husband, Nigel, loved the track tells of the meaning it has for her. Musicologist, Allan Moore, discusses the anomolous use of the word 'blue': usually associated with downbeat emotions, this is a peculiar subversion of that cultural norm with the word 'blue' conjuring happiness and good weather. Tremayne Crossley and his friend, Jo Milne, tell the extraordinary story of how Jo heard music for the first time. This track played an important role in that event. For Dr. Sam Illingworth, Mr Blue Sky will always take him back to the low-flying research-flights he made over the wetlands, greenlands and seas of the Arctic Circle with the shadow of the BAE146 plane beneath him and clear blue skies above. The children of King's St. Albans in Worcester sang the track that features at the end of the programme. There is a link on the Radio 4 Soul Music webpage to the video that accompanies their recording.
