On BBC Radio 2, Pick of the Pops is featuring this week's chart from 1978. Sweet Talkin' Woman's playing as I type. Just realised that 43 years ago, I bought this single and so began my love of ELO...

I was going to say that! It was a different world back then, we were much more easily enchanted by a bit of coloured vinyl. It is a lovely colour though

I think I had the coloured singles first, then found the OOTB on blue vinyl. It was soooo brilliant, not only twice the size but two whole discs. More recently I've been unable to resist various Muse releases on heavyweight/coloured vinyl, the whole feel of it is just lovely. Definitely a billion times better than a puny old CD. Not just the discs but the bigger packaging and artwork. And that's before you play it. The youth of today just wouldn't understand....

I don't think I got the purple single until the early 80s.

Roger Day on Boom Radio is playing Wild West Hero right now.
He's just said Out Of The Blue is his classic album choice for today - turns out he played Sweet Talking Woman and Starlight earlier. Blast! I missed em!

Unlucky, it always seems to be the purple vinyl up for auction these days. Our fellow American ELO fans were lucky enough to get much nicer vinyl sleeves than ours. Telephone Line was in picture sleeve and GREEN vinyl. My TL was on black vinyl and plain white sleeve.

Did the coloured versions come out at the same time as the standard singles then? and also would they have been the dearer to buy? I can't remember...

I picked up Rockaria and Telephone Line both on black and in white sleeves from Oldies Unlimited in Edinburgh during a family trip probably in 1978 or 9.
